The top 3 guys have more than what was in play in 2003.
Another Courtesy Bump. The final table resumes today, but not sure exactly what time. ESPN2 will have delayed coveraged tonight starting at 8 pm et.
It should be starting any minute now. The countdown timer at WSOP.com is at all 0s.
Sent a tweet hoping Jesse can stay focused and not worry about his family.
I thought it was going to start at Noon Vegas Time. But as far as I can tell, it is nearly 2:30 Vegas time and still has not started.
PokerNews finally opened Day 8 live reporting blog, but as really made only one post, one hour ago.
Without a time when the first hand is going to be dealt.
I thought it started at 8 PM ET.
Shuffled and dealt at 7:45 for the 8 pm delayed broadcast start.
Final Table resumes tonight with Merson (88.35MM), Silvia (62.75 MM) and Jake Balsiger (46.88 MM)
I watched most of the telecast last night. I like each of the three finalists for this evening. Merson has the chip lead but it is not a really big chip lead.
Russell Thomas was aggressive early, but appeared to card dead after he nearly doubled up when he eliminated Steven Gee.
I thought Esfandiari was not as good as he was last year.
I wonder how much these guys payed their “coaches” to advise them. Selbst is helping Silvia and some guy named Jason Somerville coached. Thomas.
Watched until 4AM woke at 8, just in time to watch the final few hands.
I was channel surfing a bit last night. Tuned in when they were three-handed and decided to watch for a while. Didn’t know what I was getting myself in to.
I would have been happy if any of the three players won last night. Merson was a good choice since it knock Hellmuth out of the PoY award. That can’t be all bad.
Balsiger and Sylvia had a big crowd behind them on the rail and seemed generally appreciative when their rail started cheering.
I had my DVR go until 4:30 am cdt and it was not long enough. Balsiger was down but not out at that time.
From what I saw, the way they finished is the way they deserved. Balsiger survived twice against Sylvia when he was all-in and behind, and he had a run of lucky cards when he was desperate. Sylvia survived an all-in with A-K against Merson with K-K.
I know luck plays a part, but I’m happy not to see it completely decide the whole thing.
As I said, I went to bed at 4, what time was Balsinger knocked out?
Roughly 8:00 a.m., east coast.
If I didn’t have someplace to be today, woulda watched whole thing! Are they gonna air a condensed version?
For anyone that watched the Tuesday night coverage (final three), did anyone sense a subtle anti-Balsiger bias from Antonio Esfandiari?
IMO, Antonio didn’t want a college kid winning the WSoP.
The condensed version airs Sunday night. (7-10)
If anything, I think it would be more because he was so young and inexperienced. He’d only been playing poker for a couple years, or so. Such a young rookie winning the most prestigious event in poker doesn’t do much to bolster the argument that poker is much more a game of skill, and less about luck. That argument is an important one when it comes to getting online poker legalized throughout the U.S.
As it turned out, the more experienced player (7 million hands played online!) won out, so I think Esfandiari was happy with the result.
Haven’t seen any of it this year. Was Helmuth a whiny little bitch again as he was going down?
Hellmuth was eliminated on Day 1A. IIRC, there was no coverage of any Day 1 session this year. If there was, I missed it.
