I must have missed it because right as the Indycar race ended, the NASCAR race started.
Awsome race, but Seb should have given himself an extra lap or two at the end and switched to soft around lap 48.
Kimi is the Man! Drive a damaged car to second, holding off Hamilton in the process.
Gotta love a win by Ferrari.
I’m just happy I got to watch it.
I watched it live. Very boring until right at the end.
Pretty sure that the softer tyres wouldn’t have lasted that long. He probably shredded them by having that four lap chase and pushing as hard as he could.
Had he done it earlier they would have dropped off a cliff unless he took it far more steadily, in which case he probably couldn’t have caught Hamilton.
It was a fine balance and they probably got him as close as they could.
Shaping up to be a close season though.
Classic Alonso win. From the start it was clear this was his race.
Kimi still has all the chops.
I’m sure Lewis would’ve rammed Vettel if he’d managed to pass him.
I’m convinced that at some point this season Webber will punt Vettel off the track. My boyfriend is saying that Webber will be done with Red Bull after this season. I’m not sure where he’s getting that info, but I have a feeling it’s gonna be a long year for Webber.
I figure a soft set on low fuel loads would go maybe 6-8 laps. Maybe worth 2 seconds a lap? That would have been 12-16 seconds. Of course, Lewis would have defended, so who knows?
Any way you do the math, I don’t think it was gonna work. You’re right. He got about as close as possible. It was fun to watch.
RE: Webber leaving- Someone mentioned during the race about the two Toro Rosso drivers dukiing it out over the vacent seat, so it must be a leaked secret somewhere.
Webber’s signed up with Porsche for next year.
Rumors afoot that the Long Beach Grand Prix might become the USGP West again, which could mean 3 American GPs in 2015, but don’t hold your breath. Gordon Kirby has Mr. Ecclestone buying the LBGP himself, which would be out of character for him to use his own money. Seems a very long shot to me, the current LBGP owners are also IndyCar owners and probably wouldn’t want to give away what’s generally regarded as Indycar’s 2nd most significant event.
In other American-centric news, Alexander Rossi will plod around Bahrain in the Caterham in Friday practice, but in the P1 session that NBC doesn’t televise. Oh well.
What the hell is up with the Pirelli tires? Never seen so many explode over the course of a weekend. I’d like to see Goodyear back in the sport. Classic!
I’m really starting to hate NBC for fucking up the coverage. They keep bouncing the race around to different channels and I’m having a hell of a time getting them to DVR. Had to watch the Spanish-language broadcast this week! Damn lucky to have stumbled across that channel, actually. I think there was only ONE commercial break, if memory is correct.
Pirelli just released this…
And their plan for the German GP…
That stinks, but I must say for us, we haven’t had that problem. Wife and I agree that we like NBC’s coverage much more than Speed’s.
Was a very exciting race and another lap or two, I think Webber would have gotten Rosberg. Looking forward to Germany.
What do you think of the Kimi moving to Red Bull rumors? I’d love to see what someone with his talent could do with a Red Bull car.
He was pretty mad about Lotus telling him not to pit during the safety car. Thinks he would have had second and Boullier admits it was a mistake. I think Red Bull might stay with their Toro Rosso drivers though. Vettel only signed a one year extension so to keep him happy they probably prefer a teammate that will accept a number two role.
I haven’t heard that rumor, but you’re seeing what someone with his talent can do with that car. Back-to-back Championships, Baby! Another one in a few months, I predict.
Wow. A quick 5 second skim of that set off my Bull-Shit detector!
What an incredibly boring second half of the year.
We had a nice start, but then, how can races be interesting when there are only two or three overtakes and with Vettel gaining one second per lap on every freaking circuit it’s sometimes impossible to watch.
Now in Abu Dhabi, he pits last and get out 20 seconds ahead of the second place.
I know Seb’s a great driver but the car is so much better than all the rest (including Webber’s) that it’s almost a joke.
How do you get Vettel’s car is so much better than Webber’s? Webber actually was on pole the last two races. What the rest is concerned, other teams really have dropped the ball. Much of it intentionally, as I heard McLaren and Ferrari officials claim to be ‘focussing on next year’ about 6 races ago.
Today’s race was a snoozefest.
