2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. Australia/New Zealand

Aren’t they busy tinkering with DL to try and take account for the rain break stuff? I think they’ve added an S (Stern) to the DL, so it’s not DLS, who is busy trying to address this. The process by which this formula is created is necessarily iterative, so if they’re not incorporating this, they will probably give it a go in the future, as I think you’re right that it currently is a hole in the method.

A quick google search reveals that Stern is working on the DL now - but it remains a bit of a black box. He has done something to it, he’s just not saying what!

But it’s just as hard for the bowling side. The wet ball is notoriously harder to grip (witness the SA bowlers working on keeping the ball dry nearly every over), it’s tougher for the fielders to catch a slippery ball, and sometimes a ball hit to the outfield will either a)Plug on landing - advantage fielding side or b) skid on - advantage batting side.

It’s too hard to say whether a rain break advantages one side over the other. There are differing conditions, too, between different geographical centres. it’s just one of those luck-of-the-draw variables you cant do much about.

It basically came down to two shots. Twice in the last 4 overs Elliott basically mis-hit a ball straight-up into the air. the first landed EXACTLY between 3 fielders with none able to get a hand on it. the second landed EXACTLY between two fielders leading to the collision (and if anyone says someone should have called ‘Mine’ like they used to do on the country oval, consider the noise level at the ground).
If either of those shots is placed about 1 metre in any other direction, SA probably win.

Australia win the toss and elect to bat. Time to strap in and enjoy the ride.

Finch 56* from 94.
W.T.F.

Finch now 81 after 114 balls, maybe India should keep him in to keep a lid on the score. Australia looking good otherwise, with a 320+ on the cards.

Well, they didn’t keep him in for long.

Australia, to me, seem about 50 runs short with a few overs to go.

india can be 160-180-200 after 30 overs but shouldnt be for than 3 down. wickets are the key

I dunno, 328 looks like a sporting total - it’ll take some getting by India so we could be in for a ripper chase.

Australia have the upper hand no doubt

I don’t know- the wicket looked okay to me, although Steve Smith did say it was a bit two paced.

We’ll see if the Australian bowlers are any good but at least it “should” be competitive.

Smith has been India’s nemesis throughout the tour. Awesome knock today again.

Pls dont say the bolded part coz Aust. are the favorites after scoring big score in pressure game.

World XI for the WC -

Dhawan Guptill Kohli Smith Sangakara DeViiliars Faulkner Starc Boult Wahab Tahir

12th Man - Ashwin

Agree?

No McCullum?

The Aussie slips are two paces too far back it seems…

I’d take McCullum instead of Guptill - he doesn’t score as much, but he does it damn quickly, leaving more balls for the rest of your batsmen. And what’s Faulkner done to deserve selection?

Hard to leave him, neither him or Guptill have played a single match in Aust…I thought of having 1 of the two.

Back to the game -

Rohit is looking to get out
Should play 1st 10 overs risk freepraying.

Want late-order hitter who can bowl. ANy other options?

Corey Anderson - Averaging 38.50 runs at 109 strike rate, and taken 14 wickets for starters.

Personally I’d just take a fifth bowler and have faith in my ridiculously powerful top order.

Did think of Corey. Good choice. Faulker does well versus India, so bit of a personal bias as well.

New Challenge - Pick an Associates eleven and say which full nations (other than England) you’d back them to beat.

From what I have watched -

Porterfield
Taylor(zim)
Ervine
SeanWilliams
ShaimanAnwar
Neilo’brien
Nabi
PaulStirling
Chatara
Javed(uae)
Zadran

who did i miss?
