4 points. It’s a race. A long shot, but a race.

My friends, Spurs could win the league.

Probably won’t. But it will be fun either way.

Spurs waited too long. Chelsea haven’t got a game they will lose for the rest of the run-in. The away tie to Everton is their toughest battle. Tottenham have a couple iffy games left. I think their game away to Leicester City will be interesting; Foxes will be more than happy to deny Tottenham the title AGAIN.

Waited too… You act as if Spurs have been bad and are only just putting on the juice.

Chelsea has been amazing this season. If they win the title the fully deserve it. But it’s not like Tottenham haven’t also been playing consistently fantastic football. And they did it without once having their full first choice starting XI.

It’s a super long shot for Tottenham to pull it off, Chelsea have to slip up badly. But… Two draws would be that slip.

On a side note, Man U have been ridiculously good this season and it’s sort of a shame that they had a handful of bad results and are looking to be a Europa league team. For my money they have been a better team than both City and Liverpool.

Nonsense. Spurs tied 6 of their first 11 games, including against Leicester (when they were playing miserably), Bournemouth, and Baggies. And they also lost to both Chelsea and Man. U. in the first half of the season. It was after the United loss that they appear to have decided to play proper footie; they are 14-2-1 since, including the victory against Chelsea. And their margin of victory since that United loss has also gotten some deserved attention; they are generally letting lower-level teams sniff any points. Had they played this way the whole season, or even started doing that in say, October, they’d probably be on top now.

I’m not a Spurs hater by any stretch of the imagination. For me, it’s great to see teams like them (and my beloved Foxes) breaking up the dominance that for so long existed among Man U., Arsenal and Liverpool, as well as the more recent dominance of the billionaire trophy buyers (Chelsea and City). But Tottenham started the season much as they ended last season: failing to believe in themselves enough to take that next step needed to actually win. Maybe they’ve got that belief now, but it appears they arrived at it a bit on the late side.

In totally NON Premier League thoughts, please spare a moment to wish luck to Leicester City tomorrow as we host Atlético. It would be good for the competition if two of the three Spanish clubs lose. A semi-final round with four teams from four different countries would be much more exciting! (I’m assuming that Juventus don’t let the refs save Barça again… )

First, yes good luck. Athleti are tough, but the Foxes are coming into form.

Second, October did suck. It was more due to injury than anything (Harry Kane missed almost 12 weeks of total game time, amongst other serious injuries.) but, at least since coming to Spurs Pochettino teams start slow. I’m not sure why. Spurs tear last season didn’t start until November either. That said, they are on pace for an 80+ point total. You don’t get that by being inconsistent. They were just less consistent than Chelsea.

In the first 19 games played, Spurs had an 11-6-2 record, for 39 points. That’s 2.05 pts. per game. That would give them a total of 78 pts. for the season. That might seem impressive by last year’s standard, but most seasons, that wouldn’t give them a sniff at the title. They might not even finish in the CL with it (see: 2013-14).

Since then, they are 10-2-1, for 32 pts in 13 games, a 2.47 pts. per game pace. That’s almost a full half-point per game better, which reflects the fact they aren’t gifting other teams tied results any more. And given that that resurgence started before they had actually played out the first 19, the comparison is even greater.

The only reason that Spurs are still in shouting distance is that Chelsea have shown some vulnerability that Spurs have not: Chelsea have lost more games, including the shocking loss to Palace. Chelsea’s inability to insure they get points from top tier teams is haunting them ('Pool, Aresenal, Spurs, United). But they don’t have any such teams left to play. My prediction is that they will managed to win out, or, possibly, drop two points on one of the games. Spurs, meanwhile, have some difficult games (Arsenal and United), and some dangerous games (@ the aforementioned Palace, @ Leicester). The chance they will win out, even on their form, is not as good.

In any event, as the numbers show, they have indeed been “inconsistent.” What they have not done is lose as often as last season, and that’s a good trend for them.

Well, it was a good run. Give us another couple years and we’ll be back. #FoxesNeverQuit

Joey Barton banned for 18 months for gambling. Has there ever been a bigger waste of talent?

The biggest mystery of Joey Barton’s career is why clubs keep on employing him. He has pretty much been a prick from start to finish.

Well, as of today, Sunderland AFC have been put out of their misery, finally. I ask one question: after this year, will anyone try to defend David Moyes as a good manager again? As for the Black Cat fans, I hope to see you back soon; it never feels right when there is no Tyne/Wear derby on the schedule.

Oh, and a certain midlands team got to 40 points. Finally. <whew>

Let’s go Arsenal. This should be a very entertaining match.

No matter what happens, it will be great. But it would be especially great to mathematically prevent the Gooners from finishing above Tottenham in the last NLD at the Lane.

Also Tottenham have just passed their record points total for the Premier League era,so its time to start padding the record.

Getting tired of watching that dive called a penalty. This is the second game today with the exact same “penalty” called, and both were sold to the referee with the same act. :frowning:
Sad to think that, after 90 of them, there won’t be any more North London Derbies at White Hart Lane. :frowning:

Clear penalty. You’re nuts. He was tripped in the box, the opposite player made contact with his ankle and never the ball. I’m not in any way biased.

So, I’m going to be in the U.K. next week and I can get hospitality tickets for Liverpool vs Southhampton for about £149. Is it worth it or should I just enjoy the match at a Liverpool pub?

You’re asking if watching a game at Anfield is worth it? :dubious:

Also, Liverpool/Southampton should be a great game. Southampton is a better team than their standing would suggest and can actually play Liverpool. Liverpool are Jeckle and Hyde but on a good day are one of the best teams in England.

My favorite chant from yesterday:

We want you to stay,
We want you to stay,
Arsene Wenger,
We want you to stay!

Scousers have yet to score on Soton in three tries this season but Saints appear to have gone into cruise mode, judging by their sleepwalking performance vs Hull Saturday. That could be the match where Liverpool blows them out, which will thrill people in the stadium.
