2016-17 Premier League Thread

#Wengerin

But let’s be honest. The rivalry with Arsenal really doesn’t mean much anymore since they are just a mid table side. If anything Tottenham’s real rivals are Chelsea. (to paraphrase Knorf, from last season’s EPL thread.)

1-0 Swansea. Love these relegation battle matches. I wish we could bring this feature to American sports.

Maybe they had better learn to seal the deal with mid-table London teams first. :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree wholeheartedly. The drama of the last few games that Swansea and Hull City are playing is quite gripping.

In other news, Leicester City are up to 9th, now. If they had spent any part of the first few months playing anything like they are now, they’d be back in Europe next season. <sigh>

They won 9 games on the bounce and have the best record into the premier league since January, and are still on pace to finish with 87 points. Losing games on a bad bounce when you were clearly the best side happens. At least it happens more often than teams falling half way down the table for no real reason other than luck running out. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, this will be another year where they finish near the top of the table, but without any honors. Maybe they have just taken over the Gunners’ job of winning top-4 “trophies.”

The difference is Spurs have visibly improved year over year for the past 4 years. Woolwich have been treading water for the last 10.

Also, credit to Spurs for doing this with a lower wage bill than any of the next 6 teams below them and a nearly neutral net transfer spend.

Chelsea buy titles, and United and Woolwich are trying to (as are Liverpool and City, for that matter I think even Everton spends more). Spurs are doing it the old fashioned way, with home grown talent and a system and mentality. It takes longer that way.

We’re number 2!!!

A couple more hours of hard work and Liverpool should be able to break down the Soton defense. It’s inevitable.

Our real rival is Barcelona.

Stupid Barcelona. (actually I would have gone with Real Madrid since they are half Spurs players anyway.)

I’ve been gone a bit, not because of Arsenal’s mediocre season, but because I’m burnt on the board. Way burnt. I haven’t posted since October or so and frankly haven’t missed it.

But I do kind of miss this thread.

Anyway, congrats to Spurs for denying a St. Totteringham’s Day. And congrats to Chelsea who are probably going to win the League. One win more for them. Don’t really want to see Spurs win. So, Spurs go ahead and lose. Chelsea, I guess you can win one more.

I only care about the FA Cup at this point, although I’d prefer to see the Gunners finish 3rd or 4th, obviously.

For the record, Wenger in.

I do like Tottenham’s recent entry as a top-five team, mostly because for so long the top of the Premier league has been so static, with the only new entries being the two teams which leveraged their billionaire owners’ money into better results. I’ve rooted for Everton to improve beyond 7th place for some time, for much the same reason.

You and me both. I don’t care much for Everton one way or the other, Southampton either, but I would love to see each of them rise and give the league a really competitive top 8 (or 9 if Leicester manage to be good again once they don’t have to deal with Europe.) One of the most fun things about this season is that for much of the year all the top spots were really up for grabs.

Well, Chelsea sealed the deal today. Now all that’s left is the jockeying for money.

Oh, well and Swansea, Hull, and Crystal Palace trying to avoid the drop!

And Champs League places.

“Jockeying for the money”

Arsenal has really turned things around. Unfortunately for Arsenal fans its May snd its likely saved Arsene Winger.

Has there ever been a better coach name/club combo? :@@:

Harry Kane is a golden God.

That is all.

Ok, not quite all. I should provide a cite.

Look at the minutes played.
