2016 Bernie Sanders (D-VT) campaign for POTUS thread

But many black politicians supported *that *bill:

Oh now this is the best part about Bernie Bros – now effing balls to come out and just be truthful about what they actually insinuating.

Look, pal, you clearly made reference to Hillary Clinton “calling black people” super predators. Don’t try to dance around it. Don’t be a Bernie Bro. Okay, you put it out there, and I responded to it because you put it out for consumption. So don’t effing try to be coy with me and suggest that you didn’t inject race into the discussion – you did. I’m not one of your Millennial classmates or coworkers. I spot bullshit, and I call it out. Capisce?! BE A MAN at minimum!!!

She apologized because she knows that in 2016 people don’t understand the context in which her comments were made. She also apologized because she knows that people were affected by the unintended consequences of the law. Now let me ask you this one, Bernie Brah: HAS BERNIE SANDERS APOLOGIZED FOR VOTING FOR THE LAW?!?!?!??! At least Hillary Clinton had the decency to apologize for the unintended consequences of a law that she advocated (it shoul be noted that she, unlike Bernie Sanders, didn’t VOTE for the law; she merely supported it). But Bernie Sanders actually voted for the fucking law. Awww, what’s da madduh? Don’t like reality?

Christ, if Bernie Sanders is having such a hard time living down a single vote that he actually had to stick his neck out on, imagine how he’d be if he were president. See, Bernie Sanders voted for this law (which hurt blacks) because it didn’t matter. Unlike Hillary Clinton, he’s never, ever, ever had to account to the Black community for his votes. He lives in white Vermont. That might be why he has had a hard time living down and explaining his vote for gun manufacturers, despite the fact that Black Mayor after Black Mayor demanded accountability. I actually met (several times) one of those black mayors: Marc Morial of New Orleans. He was one of THE largest proponent of the laws because he saw the hundreds of lives that were lost to the NRA’s nutty positions on the issue of firearms. There are other black mayors. Don’t talk about race and what Bernie’s done and what Hillary hasn’t done for inner city African Americans 'cause Bernie can’t win – trust me on that one. Ain’t about what’s been said in a sound byte; it’s about the effort, the wars that have been fought. Sanders never had to defend the African American community. Clinton has, and did so, and will do it again. And that’s why, despite all of the essays you try to write on Huff Post and Mother Jones, real people don’t seem to buy it. It’s not about promises made; it’s about action taken and sacrifices made…bro.

Your quote doesn’t really dispute what I said:

My emphasis.

Up the Socialist Irish Jews!

And when I spot personal derogatory remarks and insults I issue Warnings.
This sort of rant does nothing to promote discussion.

I will not issue a Warning on this occasion, but keep the personal remarks out of the discussion.

I’m sorry, tnd and JSLE. You’re right, I went overboard a little.

Uh… what?! Does anyone agree with every provision in a massive bill? I’m pretty sure that President Obama didn’t agree with every provision in the ACA (he had to give on the public option). That doesn’t mean he didn’t support it.

Why do you have a problem with context?

Do Bernie supporters grasp the long odds or do they genuinely think he’ll get nominated?

I find this to be ironic from Sanders’ supporters. Do they ever consider the context with which Clinton has voted for or given support for bills? Or that the vast majority of voters were clamoring for increased crime penalties in 1994 (and the states had already taken the forefront of the issue)?

I’m not a “they”, I’m an individual poster here. You are talking* at* me instead of to me. And you speak of irony…

You are part of a they. My contention stands.

You really have to love the media. On MSNBC’s front page, the current #3 story is linked as: Are Dems souring on Clinton? Which goes to this article that unequivocally states they’re not but that she still has a long fight to the nomination (duh):

http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/leading-23-million-votes-clinton-still-faces-long-primary-battle

Talk about click bait.

Fine. Let it be known that you are using my post as a jump off for a rant, and are in no way engaging in a discussion. I suppose I should no longer think of you as an individual poster, and hold you responsible for anything anyone who supports Hillary Clinton says or does. Because you’re all alike, right?

What, you think that would be a new development?

The notion that we are all just individual posters with our own separate individual notions of the campaign and not a product of our interest groups is somewhat amusing, however.

I’m sorry you think so little of yourself.

Seriously? Dopers are using the term “Bernie Bros”?

I would hope we are. That’s what democracy is supposed to be about: healthy debate, informed decision-making, and its proper expression.

I think that we, especially Americans, overemphasize individualism. I think this election in particular has shown that people tend to take on the way of looking at things as their candidate echo chambers do, while thinking the other candidate’s supporters are the ones in echo chambers. Also I think the studies that have indicate that people tend to make their decisions on the basis of “gut” emotions and then post hoc rationalize that choice or decision comes into play here as well.

Believe it or not, there are independent thinkers out there, and I’d hope they’d disproportionately congregate here.
