Those sound a lot to me like powers, so why would the states have to give those up?
It is June 3rd and Bernie hasn’t released his May fundraising totals yet. Quite interesting from a campaign that used to trumpet them loudly.
Clinton raised $27 million in May plus $13.5 million for the Democratic Party. Clinton has $42 million in the bank.
I imagine the Sanders campaign is deep in debt by now.
Because the original quote was (emphasis mine):
What “rights” does a state have, other than to demand that they get at least as many Senators as every other state (IIRC, the one thing in the Constitution that cannot be amended - at least, not without amending it to remove that stipulation first)? Well, that, and the right to have a case against another state heard by the Supreme Court.
Ha, that’s a funny idea for a loophole there. Somehow I doubt it would pass muster with the Supreme Court though.
Perhaps a separate thread for this discussion?
ENOUGH!
The issues regarding States’ powers, rights, authorities, etc. will now come to an end in this thread.
Go open a separate thread in Great Debates to discuss those ideas and leave this thread to discuss the openness (or not) of the the Bernie Sanders campaign.

I got a phone call yesterday trying to get me to make phone calls for Sanders. I’m afraid I was a downer; I hung up. At least I didn’t succumb to the temptation to tell the poor girl I’ve gone back to the GOP.
The Clintonistas on this board have won. I am broken and defeated. My optimism has been beaten out of me and my progressivism with it. All I want now is for Trump to win and lead us to inglorious spasms of war against an arbitrary assortment of his perceived personal enemies. I will sign up to be the sole of his boot stamping the faces of whatever countries of origin he believes those to have slighted him to descend from. I will die killing a Chinaman, a Mexican, an Arab, or a Canadian for Donald Trump’s notorious vanity.
Or, maybe I’ll make some calls for Bernie tomorrow.
Paraphrased: “I’m bad at math, I’ve always been bad at math, but I think if Bernie did mathing, he’d realize it’s over, but I don’t know because I can’t math myself.”
Yeah, that’s not going to convince Sanders.
Sander’s scenario and/or fantasy is that his tremendous win in California will prove that there is incredible momentum going his way, that the contest is ending too early, and that everybody will see that once the California results are in.
And then the big shots in the Dem party will look and say “Hey, we gotta ditch Hillary. Gonna tell all those people who voted for her to forget it, because Bernie was going to win, but he ran out of states!”.
Un fucking credible, in fucking believable.
I wonder if the death of Muhammad Ali will hurt the Sanders campaign? It looks like there’s going to be very heavy coverage of Ali all this weekend. I’m sure Sanders would prefer the news coverage focusing on his rallies.
He does rallies?
Oh, I don’t know…Lech Walesa, Martin Luther King, Cory Aquino, and Mahatma Gandhi might all be surprised to learn that you need to be president in order to lead a successful protest march or three.
I get what you’re saying, but I’d take him more seriously if he’d tried.
The latest Bernie is being cheated meme going around online.
I think it’s a given that there will be many of his supporters who will see his loss as a conspiracy against him, but I wonder how significant those numbers are.
Yes, there is nothing that the Sanders campaign won’t whine about and turn into a conspiracy theory. He’s now whining about access to prison inmates in Puerto Rico.
I really hope he goes away after Tuesday. Otherwise, his senate office needs to be switched to an office so small it’ll make Harry Potter’s cupboard under the stairs look like a penthouse at the Trump Tower!
According to the latest FEC filings that I reviewed (admittedly before 6.1.16) Sanders had about $4m in the bank and $0 in campaign debt, after $200m+ spent.
The campaign has still not addressed the isue of foreign or excessive donations. They need to prove they were legal donations or refund the money. That represents another 3 million dollar liability.
For a campaign spending 40 million a month, he’s got some serious capital issues now.
Clinton’s campaign is not very financially healthy either but being personally wealthy and winning she’ll have a much easier time balancing the books.
It’s very likely Sanders campaign ends in debt. The DNC could absorb it. We’ll see if if they are willing to do so.
Anybody care to clue me in about campaign finance data that does not come from the FEC, 'cause the numbers I’m reading in this thread do not match what they are saying (especially the above claim about HRC). Thanks!
I assume this refers to the possibility that, once the polls close in New Jersey (three hours before they do in California), at least one network will add NJ pledged delegates to Clinton’s “yes, we’re including the superdelegates” count and announce that she “crossed the finish line.”
Then again, I wouldn’t be surprised if doing that wouldn’t be a benefit for Sanders, as his supporters are less likely than Clinton supporters to think, “Well, CNN / Fox / MSNBC has declared Clinton the nominee, so there’s not much reason to vote”; he could end up winning California pretty much because of this.
- If they do announce for Hillary, it’s a conspiracy because they did so to suppress Sanders’s voters, allowing Hillary to steal California.
- If they do not announce for Hillary, it’s a conspiracy because they are suppressing the news so that her voters will be able to steal California.
It’s the sheer number of posts like this that make me think the Democratic Party is trying really hard to lose potential voters. Otherwise they might win a majority and have to govern.
