2016 Bernie Sanders (D-VT) campaign for POTUS thread

The Washington Post stirred this up and got to have it both ways: http://fair.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/WPostQualified.jpg

Bernie will vote for Hillary. Good. It’s time to start getting everyone on board. The EU referendum should be a wake up call to the Democrats that a madman could be elected president.

I think Brexit is good for Hillary. Voters will seek stability, not recklessness.

I think it could go the other way - the stock market will take a tumble - it was betting on the UK staying in. How quickly we recover from that tumble will drive our election. If that tumble turns to panic, and triggers job loss, the Democrats will lose the White House.

Most Americans aren’t going to see that the tumble has nothing to do with U.S. politics - its rare that people understand all the variables at play - or care - they just care that they have a job, are going to keep their job, and are likely to get a raise.

Donald Trump blames Obama for Brexit — claims the U.S. will cast similar vote against “global elites” in November.

I guess that makes clear enough the lineup on this issue, to the extent it is an issue relevant to American voters.

How can one “blame” somebody for something you support?

How does this work in other contexts?

“I blame Sam Phillips for creating the conditions which allowed my favorite singer, Elvis Presley, to begin to flourish. Damn you Phillips, damn you all to hell!”

Huh?

Is Trump making a commitment here never to meddle in other countries’ affairs?

Realistically once Hillary is President the DNC chair decreases immensely in power/importance. It’s only a significant position when you’re in the opposition or it’s an election year.

If Trump operated on logic: yes.

But of course the answer is ‘no’…because whatever HE tells other countries to do is not meddling–by definition! It’s really the best advice, the best in the world, simply fantastic advice, you’d have to be a total loser not to follow that advice.

Conor Lynch writes: They aren’t in it for ‘free stuff’: What critics get wrong about millennial Bernie Sanders supporters.

Lynch is a butt hurt Bernie Bro. Salon has been a hotbed for the Bernie Bro crowd, but primary season is over. Shitbag Sanders lost, he has a choice to make now.

Why do you have to be an asshole?

Yes yes, that’s all nice, but how about something more substantive than “Butthurt Bro whines.” Tell us why he’s wrong. So far this season, most of your attacks on Sanders have been pure polemics rather than any real issues-based arguments.

Warning. You should know better than that.

Seconded. You really have been ill-natured and nasty about it all, dale, not just against Sanders but his supporters and the whole movement they’re trying to start. Are you really that horrified by the notion of a social-democratic America?!

Even tho I preferred Hillary, Sanders is a great guy. Some of his supporters got carried away, I’ll admit.

I’m glad Ms Clinton is the Nominee Presumptive. But I would love for the Sanders “movement” to carry on! Please, let them bring some “social-democratic” candidates to light!

Here in Texas I’m a Yellow Dog Democrat–because the worst Democrat is better than then best Republican.

After we Dump Trump, I’m eager to see what Sanders & his followers come up with in elections at *all *levels. I hope they don’t disappoint me.

“Bernie Bro” is a pejorative invented by Hillary supporters to imply that his supporters are a bunch of misogynistic neanderthals. It’s a stupid and immature talking point. For one thing, I’ve met plenty of female supporters.

At this point I think he’s trying to bring in some of his most rabid supporters for a soft landing by fighting for them to the very end. I think his real goal at this point is to bring them into an organization that’s sort of a left-wing Tea Party. The first goal of that organization will be to elect as many Democrats as possible in November, including Hillary.

Hillary Clinton supports both of those gun control measures you mention-if anything she’s been trying to run to Sanders’s left on that issue.

So Sanders is thinking of starting his own advocacy group? And his wife is encouraging this? Sounds like a way for Jane to collect a cushy paycheck now that she’s no longer screwing Burlington College over.

Just like Obama’s Organizing for Action or Howard Dean’s Democracy for America, any Sanders advocacy group is likely to be ineffective, and in Sanders’ case, a further exercise in ego stroking. I imagine Eric Kingson will get crushed in his congressional primary and I can’t wait for DWS to win her primary in August.
