Thanks for the info about Anthony Daniels. He must have a great contract with Disney seeing as how anybody could have been in that suit and the sound was obviously a pre-record.

I think it has less to do with a Disney contract and more to do with the fact that Daniels is the ultimate Star Wars shill.

I don’t mean that in a bad way, I just mean he’s always around when Star Wars things happen and any time I’ve seen a special or TV program about it he’s always there

Didn’t get to see the broadcast at all (I’m in a terrible time zone for it), and didn’t even manage to see many of the nominees this year. So except for bafflement at the Best Picture choice (which I did see and which I expressed in the thread for that movie, so I won’t rehash it here), I have just one contribution, a Cafe Society-style pet peeve of mine that I get to air every year around this time. If you’ll indulge me…

Stop saying the Oscars are too long!! Please! I skimmed a couple recaps of the show while reading the news this morning and the tired complaint about the ceremony going on too long was mentioned in all of them! Okay, I didn’t see this broadcast, but in past years I’ve never had an issue with the length. Frankly I’ve more often felt annoyance at the producers’ rude and ham-handed attempts to rush people off the stage. The Oscars are a once a year event for people who enjoy movies, and it’s only 3-4 hours. No one complains that the Superbowl is too long, and that goes on at least as long. Can we please retire this cliche?

I’m behind this 100%. I personally have no issue with staying up past my bed time one night of the year to watch those in my favorite industry celebrate and be honored; in fact I look forward to it and if the winner of “best sound for a short or comedy in American Sign Language” wants to thank everyone he knows, I’m cool with that. Then again, I’m the doofus that stays in the theater until after the credits are finished.
