“The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA, Inc.) is pleased to announce that C. J. Cherryh has been named the 32nd Damon Knight Grand Master for her contributions to the literature of Science Fiction and Fantasy.”
Nifty! I love so much of her stuff. She does science fiction and fantasy – and kind of hard-to-characterize stuff like “Wave Without a Shore” which is largely an interpersonal story, which Dickens could (almost) have written. There’s Dickensian touches all through it.
She’s remarkably versatile! The collection Sunfall highlights six earth cities, as they might appear in the future, from near future to far future. Each story works with the cultural tone of the city (as it is today) to project the “personality” of the city forward. Thus each story has its own tone and personality. Very clever way of putting together a book!
