2018 Masters

McIlroy has to be very disappointed - he never produced anything resembling his Round 3 brilliance. Sitting in beautiful position to go for the “Won all 4 majors” milestone, he came up pretty much empty.

Each of his 3 birdies was immediately followed by a bogey. Five bogies in all, after just 4 in the first 3 rounds. Not how the great ones respond to historic opportunities.

No. He finished at -13. Had he not bogeyed, he would have been -14, one shot behind, tied for second with Fowler.

It WAS a very good charge. Reminded me of Nicklaus’ charge on Sunday in the 1983 PGA Championship, where he finished one back of Hal Sutton shooting 66. What he needed it to be was Nicklaus in '86 at the Masters.

You are right - I was incorrect.

I did it recently. I two-putted the hole. My putts were my 3rd and 6th shots (4 and 5 were bunker shots).

Yes: controlled, methodical, deliberate.

I think “Jordan Spieth” is going to be the answer a lot of players give to “If you’re leading a tournament going into the final day, who would you least like to see 3 stokes back?” “Rickie Fowler” may get some play as well.
As to the question whether Tiger can ever again deliver what the hypesters would like him to, there are two big problems: His aging, troubled body (he’s now 42, and it looks like an old 42) and the talent he’s up against. I think the chances are awfully low.

Ouch! :smack:THAT must have been painful! Please tell me it wasn’t on #1!

For some crazy reason I don’t find myself rooting for Spieth. Keep trying to talk myself into it. Awesome player, and everything suggests he is an upstanding young man.

Funny how a crowd of “young” players can come and go. Like Keegan Bradley, Lumpy, and Webb Simpson a few years back. Hope Thomas, Spieth, etc all have more legs.

BTW - I was FFing w/o sound for much of it. Why were they showing Webb Simpson and Paul Casey so much?

The “problem” w/ Tiger is that he has just too much talent, and other intangibles, that it is likely that at some point he will get hot over some 4-day period. So the media will continue following him hoping that lightning will strike. But even tho he smiles not and deigns to speak to the press, I still think him an asshole.

The extensive coverage in this a.m.'s Chicago Trib DID NOT MENTION HIS NAME!

It also said, tho, that Spieth did not look at a scoreboard until after his last putt dropped. Did not know if he was 2 up or 4 back! Man, I can’t imagine such focus!

Why Do Golf Fans Hate Patrick Reed?

I guess I’m not the only one! I don’t “hate” him, it’s just that I don’t care for him.

Patrick Reed is estranged from his parents/sister.

Sounds like some majorly weird family dynamics!

They both were in range of the single-round scoring record. Simpson was -6 after 10 (with back-to-back eagles on 7 & 8), and Casey was -9 through 15.

I always hope Woods or another black guy wins so the KKK members who founded that place spin in their graves.

Thx - saw they were scoring well, but were not really close to the lead.

Kinda weird that the announcers were talking about all the support Reed got from family - including BIL on the bag, as well as local/college ties.

When, in fact he had troubles at 2 colleges, and someone (his wife?) had his parents physically removed from the US Open gallery. His parents have NEVER met their grandchildren!

I mean, golf likes to keep its skeletons in their closets, but that was pretty ridiculous!

His sister is his mother?

Bill & Jeannette are Patrick’s father and mother.

Hannah is Patrick’s sister

Cooper & Murphy are their dogs

=========

Justine is Patrick’s wife (and former caddie)

Kessler is Justine’s brother (and current caddie)

Janet is Justine’s mother

Kris is Justine’s sister (and Nanny)

I was just joking at the way it was written: “parents/sister”.

Wouldn’t be the first golfer who was estranged from his parents. ISTR a young phenom golfer a few years back (Sean O’Hair), who broke w/ his domineering father. Never was as successful as expected.

The interesting question from the win by Patrick Reed is whether or not this year will continue the now three-year-old trend of first-timers winning (almost) every major? With the exception of the Spieth British Open victory last year, the last ten majors have been won by first-timers. Reminds me of the period shortly after Tiger’s last major in 2008, when 12 of 13 were won by first-timers (from the 2009 U.S. Open to the 2012 U.S. Open).

Yeah, his dad was his caddie and made him sign some sort of “contract” that he would give him X% of his earnings. Daddy dearest.

Speaking of Sean O’Hair, he is selling his house listed at 3.9 Million
