My 70 YO BIL just ran off with a 20 something, leaving my sister bereft.
My best friend was diagnosed last week with a brain tumor and may have a year to live.
Another friend has a blocked bile duct and the operation to put a stent in failed. He will be having regular (maybe monthly) gastrological cleaning for the rest of his life (not certain what that actually involves).
Another friend has been having constant headaches since the beginning of the year and, although she is taking pain killers, no one has any idea what the cause might be. She has a pacemaker, so no MRI, and CAT scans show nothing.
The son of a late colleague died of flesh-eating bacteria.
And I cannot go visit any of the people involved or their families. Or visit my children and grandchildren.
This year really sucks!
Really sorry to hear that. You are a good guy (judging by your posts – your personality comes through, and you’re very much a positive force on these boards.) You deserve way better. May 2021 bring some improvements.
Thanks for your kind thoughts.
FYI, that sounds like what my father needed to have done. And the procedure he had to have done is entirely non-invasive. No idea what it’s called but a probe goes down the throat to the bile duct to clean it out. I think he’s conscious for the whole thing. So as medical procedures go, not so bad.
My bet is your BIL will come crawling back either when his viagra or his money run out.
Yeah, in 2020 my 2 yr old great-nephew tragically drowned in a pool (8 months after his 21 year old father committed suicide) and my sister has been diagnosed with what is most likely a terminal cancer.

Sounds like you had a year just like mine–or worse. My BIL has been screwing this girl since she was 18 and has run off with most of the cash. He argues–not incorrectly–that he was responsible for making most of it. She’s left with the house, in bad need of repairs. I think she will have to sell and move to an apartment.
Sorry to hear the bad news.
And I thought I was having a bad year. It turns out to be almost nothing
compared to what you’re going through.
Hope things get better for you.
