Good points. I’m sure Barr’s Gestapo will be deployed in Democratic areas of key states to intimidate, harass, and block voters. The mail vote will be sabotaged to the greatest extent possible. But I see the great tide coming in and it will not be stopped. I think Biden gets a big lasting bounce out of this. The MAGAbots are still there, but most everybody else just wants to change the channel.
Here’s the transcript of Biden’s speech: Transcript: Joe Biden's DNC speech | CNN Politics
Hehe.
I really hope you are right about this, but there are reasons to think it might not happen, unfortunately:
- 538 has been reporting all week that TV watchers are way down compared to 2016. Obviously, there are a lot of people streaming (like me) that are not reflected in those numbers, but less people watching = less bounce.
- Nate Silver has said multiple times that he expects a smaller bounce from the virtual conventions than from the in person ones. I believe he said he was expecting a 50% smaller bounce (not sure what he’s basing that on).
- There are less undecided people this time, so less folks able to be converted. Relatedly, Joe is already pretty far ahead in polling, so I think there’s less room to grow.
Now, let’s hope that none of that is true and he gets a 10 point bounce!
Preach it!
There is also the fact that he is already significantly ahead and there really isn’t much room to bounce any higher.
This is pretty funny. Out of touch, Donald?
On the final night of the Democratic National Convention, President Donald Trump seemed to ignore that this year’s gathering was mostly virtual. Creating confusion, he tweeted about photo ID requirements “to get into” the convention and then used that to bash Democrats for promoting mail-in ballots for the November election.
…
The Republican Convention is going to be dark. Like Blade Runner dark. I’ll have to look out the window from time to time to remind myself that I’m not living in a dystopian hellscape.
Wait, what? Where do you live, I’m moving there!
The grass is always greener…
…over the septic tank.
(To steal from Erma Bombeck)
They need to show the Dems how it’s supposed to be done! They should all wear masks, but these masks… in keeping with the spirit of today’s Republican party.
Halloween is going to be… interesting this year.
Well, I did move away from Asheville.
I watched Biden’s speech last night, via streaming and several hours after. I liked what I heard and what I saw. Powerful stuff, delivered well. The difference between candidates could not be more underlined. Trump couldn’t have given such a speech, imo.
And the most trivial of points, but I must confess it: I like Joe’s mouth more than Trump’s. Joe gives real smiles, whereas Trump all too often does that fish-lips thing. I don’t hang my election choice on that, but.
It is amazing how many people think this town isn’t a dystopian hellscape.
It’s not letting me embed a photo for some reason, but I’ll let USA Today show off our finest.
(But back to the regularly scheduled thread!)
I’ve been to Asheville a time or too. It’s a really lovely place. I’ve always enjoyed it. And with a seemingly progressive city council as well.
From the link.
“As the Chief of Police I understand the concern has been raised over the destruction of water, food, and medical supplies,” Zack said in the statement. “The Asheville Police Department would always prefer confiscation over destruction. We apologize for not being able to confiscate these supplies last night.”
Because stealing is better than destroying.
