I love how two women give national speeches, and all the ‘woke’ can do is call one screechy and complain about what the other one is wearing. We have come so far…
It’s kind of like how an African-American can become a Senator and give a national speech, and the next morning ‘uncle tom’ is trending on Twitter.
This is how you get more Trump. Well, that and the riots.
Everything “is how you get more Trump”, according to your posts. You (almost) never fail to spin whatever just happened into somehow ominous for Democrats and a blessing for Trump.
Not at all. The Black Lives Matter movement helped Democrats at first. COVID-19 definitely helped the Democrats. Trump manages to help the Democrats every day, just by being Trump.
One of the reasons I feel compelled to post the stuff you don’t want to hear is because, well, someone has to do it. You should be thanking the few right-wing types left on this board for keeping it from being a complete echo chamber. You don’t want to hear it, but if you actually want to win it’s invaluable to hear how the other side thinks.
You might consider that next time yoh unload on a conservative who tells you something you don’t want to hear. You are free to accept their point of view or not, but the information you are given from the pther side is very useful.
That’s why I’m here rather than participating in a circle jerk on some libertarian site or whatever. I already know what they think - I’m interested in hearing how the people who don’t agree with me think.
You should try it. It’s useful. If you are a Democratic activist, the best thing uou coild do to improve your political skills is to engage with Republicans in a polite, non-judgemental fashion and learn how they really think when they aren’t engaged in the usual partisan snipery, so you can better hone your own arguments.
Or, Democrats could stay in their bubble, pat themselves on the back for being the absolute best people around, and write off everything Republicans say as a product of deplorability. Then you can be shocked again on election night when you lose.
Remember, Hillary lost in part because she was so convinced that her electoral ‘wall’ in the midwest was so strong she didn’t have to bother campaigning there. How did that work out?
Oratorical style and rhetorical content are fair game for both men and women on the campaign trail and especially at a high profile speaking engagement. Both men and women who give political speeches are judged by the choices they make when delivering their speeches and how that adds to (or detracts from) their underlying message.
The comments that I have read about Ms. Guilfoyle are not that she is “screechy,” but that she emulated an oratorical style that was used by and is associated with 1940s fascists. It was not noticed because she’s a woman - in fact, the meme that’s been posted most along side her is a very male sitcom character. Calling that out is not sexism. Making women exempt from criticism is.
There are brilliant female orators. There are even more very good-to-great women orators. They all have different styles that suit their personalities, their audiences, and their message. Neither Ms. Guilfoyle nor Ms. Trump is among that set. Pretending that they are and ignoring that they are not is a disservice to women.
I like the thoughtful, reasoned criticism which you do offer sometimes - I was much too hyperbolic with my last post. But “this is how you get more Trump” is not thoughtful and reasoned criticism of the Democrats.
It’s meant to be a wake-up call, not a reasoned argument. This board seems to be full of people who think the Democrats can’t possibly lose. I’m trying to pount out how they can, hopefully so they don’t do those things. I don’t like Trump either.
These are fair criticisms. Melania is a terrible speaker, and she should be criticized for that. I might give Colbert a pass, given his penchant for making fun of how male politicians look; but folks who are focusing on Melania in this way, due to her gender, are being jerks.
I look forward, Sam, to your calling out conservatives for the same sort of behaviors.
This, however, is the dumbest thing in Dumbville. No, you get Trump by having a nation of xenophobic cultists.
Two of the women naturalized in the ceremony from the Trump convention say they were never told they would be a part of the convention and no one sought their consent.
I think this is probably confirmation bias on your part. There are certainly a few people in that category. But far as I can tell the great majority are either outright nervous or at best cautioning against complacency despite Biden’s lead in polling.
