2021 NFL QB Carousel Thread aka the NFL Offseason Thread

No one over 220 lbs. should get to wear a single digit. It would just look stupid.

You may be onto something there.

Cam Newton is 245 so he can be one of those exceptions that proves the rule.

QBs get grandfathered in. (Though Newton does rock that #1 pretty well.) I was thinking more about linebackers – can’t imagine Urlacher wearing #5.

I think the problem is more around how the game is covered. Between 4K/HD TVs, super-slo-mo, the instant reaction impact of social media and the proliferation of PTI-style shows where they argue about things fans are getting completely bombarded with information. The stuff that makes the most noise is controversy so every subjective/close call becomes Watergate.

The rules haven’t changed that much and the Refs haven’t magically gotten substantially worse. If you rewrote the rules to hypothetically be “simpler” you’d end up with a new set of outrage where perceived subjectivity goes the other way.

Teeny tiny number in a biiiiig shirt…

Many NFL players aren’t too bright: Kansas City Chiefs tight end Sean Culkin becomes first NFL player to convert entire salary into Bitcoin

Yet another player who will end up bankrupt

That’s a man not taking care of his chicken.

Along those lines, Trevor Lawrence, the soon to be first pick in the draft, has become a paid endorser for a cryptocurrency app company, and will be depositing his entire signing bonus into a crypto account with that company.

Teddy Bridgewater has been trading to the Broncos for a 6th round pick. Interesting to see if this will affect their draft choice.

Whose, Carolina’s or Denver’s? Neither team has exactly settled the question about their QB of the future.

I think Carolina’s situation was fait accompli. They had made it clear that Bridgewater was gonna be out on his ass one way or another.

The only question is if they give Darnold a year or if they snap up Fields or Jones or whoever falls.

I think this signals that Denver is open to trading back or grabbing one of these WRs with upside and not reaching for a QB.

Moved this comment to the Draft thread. Move along.

Aaron Rodgers isn’t leaving Green Bay, no matter how much they’ve pissed him off…

Right?

Rodgers regarding his relationship with the Packers: "they have become like family to me"

— Andrew (@Pops_Mgee) April 29, 2021

LOL

I can’t say I’m surprised by this. Rodgers was pretty seriously ticked off when the Pack drafted Jordan Love last year (and apparently without any conversation with Rodgers about it prior to the draft). He then went out, had a stellar 2020, and won the MVP award, only to have the Packers not be willing to (or maybe just not able to) rework his contract over the past 3 months.

And, then, having nursed a grudge for a year (if not longer), this news comes out on draft day.

And, in other weird news: the Jaguars had Tim Tebow in for a tryout recently – as a tight end.

Jaguars management: “We’ve gotten rid of every good player we had, and pissed off the fans. Maybe we can placate the ones who are also Gators fans?”

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Fuck Brian Gutekunst. The bad feelings, lack of salary cap room, and stalled renegotiations are entirely on his shoulders because he wanted to flex his fucking ego and hugely overdraft a developmental QB last year.

And, all of this, knowing that your current QB – who is the best player on your team, and one of the best at his position of all time – has a tendency to be prickly and thin-skinned, and when he feels under-appreciated or not consulted on major team decisions, takes it personally.

So maybe Rodgers should get a little bit of the blame, then? I mean, he’s a great player and all, but this makes him sound like a whiny bitch.

(I know absolutely nothing about this situation other than what I am reading in this thread).

I understand it’s a common opinion among his detractors.
