I’d like to make a suggestion: All awards should be announced at the end of the year. By doing this, if a death is discovered later in the year (by days or months) that is earlier than a previous known death, we don’t have the possibility of confusion.
IMHO.

Russell Banks , author has died
His book Cloudsplitter about John Brown came up is another thread recently, a consistently great author.
That is a good idea, but I have one issue. Sometimes the death of a pick is not noted for quite some time. Admittedly the only time this matters is the beginning of the year, so I’m not sure what should be done about this.
So, this year I will suggest the following. Since Pearce was not presented until after Vialli, this year he will not be awarded the Opening Kickoff. But in 2024 I will do as zadscmc has suggested, and not post the awards until the end of the year. If you have an issue with this, please PM me and we will discuss this.
So keep an eye on your picks, especially for the Opening Kickoff!
MMA fighter Victoria Lee dies offering maximum Celebrity Death Pool points (CDPP).
When reviewing my 2022 list last month, I discovered that one of my 2022 picks actually died in 2021 but it wasn’t announced until much later in 2022.
I didn’t bother mentioning it in thread because my first alternate didn’t die anyway, so my score wouldn’t have changed.
Donald Trump (gag) is reporting on Truth Social that Diamond of Diamond & Silk has died. I’ve seen no confirming news report, but a month ago it was reported that she’d been hospitalized with Covid. If true, it’s about 58 points (she was born in 1971).
Weird that it’s saying 2:15 a.m. tomorrow. On Twitter, it says Ron posted this at 9:15 p.m. today.
As we see now with Victoria Lee, who actually died on Dec. 26.
Evidently true.
Sheesh, she’s barely cold and they’re already grifting off her death.
These threads are great. I learn about people I have never heard of.

Your time has run out to atone, Georgie

Kenneth Rowe (née No Kum-sok), North Korean pilot who considered assassinating Kim Il Sung but instead decided to defect and two months later landed his MiG-15bis (the more advanced MiG) at Kimpo Air Base just outside Pyongyang, almost getting shot down in the process. His story is featured in this book The Great Leader and the Fighter Pilot: The True Story of the Tyrant Who Created North Korea and The Young Lieutenant Who Stole His Way to Freedom
Kimpo Air Base is just outside Seoul. If he had landed near Pyongyang he would have been in deep doo-doo.

Model Tatjana Patitz has died at 56. Cause of death has not been reported.
Guitarist Jeff Beck has died.
A bummer, but I guess Boomers like me will have to get used to it. Just about all the British Invasion stars were WWII babies, and they’re either pushing 80, or have already passed that milestone if they haven’t already passed away.
Former NFL running back and Heisman winner Charles White has died at 64.
It’s now being attributed to breast cancer.
