Count me with the pointless. As last year’s winner I am laughing at all the people who added my folks to their lists. Although I still expect to garner some points before the end of the year. But maybe I will be shut out after all.
I saw a news item that Rosalynn Carter, wife of Jimmy, is said to be suffering from dementia. She’s 95, he’s 98, so if they both go this year that would only be a total of seven points. And not even unique ones.
For the above I am preparing to get into the handbasket. If they both last until July they will have been married for 77 years.
And if they both last into October, they will be down to five points together.
I was initially very impressed by this. But then I got to thinking… once you got past, say 40 years, divorce would seem kinda pointless.
“Why divorce at your age?”
“Well, we wanted to wait until the children died.”
I have been reading about these two, and besides being married for so long their families have literally known each other all their lives. On their first date Jimmy is said to have told his mother that she was the one he would marry.
My own parents were married for over sixty two years. Mom told me that when dad finally asked her out(they knew each other from church) that she told him she already had a date that night, and he told her “break it” She did, and Mom said she was pretty sure after the first date that he was “the one”. Considering this all led to ME I approve.
silenus, I just looked up those verses and I must say I like them.
My wife and I have decided that trying to divide up all the crap we’ve accumulated in 42 years of marriage just isn’t worth it. Once one of us dies, the survivor will let the kids pick through everything, then throw the rest out.
Is there an easy way to get a “wisdom of the unwashed masses” list of the 13 most picked people and see how that does ?
I’d be happy to trawl through the spreadsheet of player picks to figure it out and send back the results.
