His Wiki page now says he is gone.
That makes it official. Up to then, it’s only mostly dead. I understand Wiki sends out a hit team to follow up and be sure.
“But I’m not dead!”
“That’s not what your Wikipedia article says…”

Finally on the board this year! And with a unique pick!
Industrial artist Monte Cazazza has died at 68.
I hate dementia as much as cancer, maybe more. To see an active and vital life seeping away is frustrating. Many years ago I remember first reading and hearing the name Alzheimer’s. It was in an article by Yasmin Khan, daughter of Rita Hayworth, writing about her mother. As she described the symptoms I thought “That sounds like Della” Della was a dear friend of the family. She and her husband were about the age of my grandparents and had known each other for sixty yeas. She sometimes babysat for me and my sisters, and I liked her a lot, She would make pancakes for our breakfast and pour them in odd shapes. We thought that made them better. By the time she died she was just a husk of her former self.
Statistically speaking, I’m probably going out due to a family history of heart problems and cancer. But I live in constant fear of developing dementia or Alzheimer’s.
It’s my greatest fear. My grandmother died of Alzheimer’s disease and at the end it was absolutely heart-breaking. She was like a frighten child, afraid of everyone, barely existing in hospice. My dad has his moments of telling me a joke twice in five minutes or asking me when I got a new tattoo that I’ve had for twenty years. I fear he’s next, and then me.
Has it ever been determined if there is a hereditary aspect to Alheimer’s, or other dementia? The woman I mentioned upthread was not a blood relation, not that that made it less painful. And my family tends to live fairly long.
@Baker A study found that the shingles vaccine may help prevent dementia:

And I wonder how many of us here have made it to July with no score? In 2022, the first year I played, I was on the board by Jan 6 with Sidney Poitier. Beginner’s luck! This year, one of my picks (I posted my list on Dec 30 2022) died on Dec. 31, and none of my other picks has seen fit to do what they should.
No score here either.
P.s. your avatar is Beautiful!
Shit, I played for 3 years without scoring. Finally got on the board last year with Loretta Lynn and this year with David Crosby.
Amateur!
It does make me wonder if there is a way to find out who has played for the most years straight without scoring. That would be dedication! Or at least someone with a deep interest in the macabre.
Guilty as charged!
Well, I scored in my first game – the Baroness Ironpants popped my cherry. Did not get points again till last fall (but at least I got into the third column). Considering that I missed 2014 (is it after midnight? oops), that is most of 7 years of futility.
Who did that to you? As I have mentioned before I once posted a list of celebs who were all at least 95. Only two died in that year, but another died January 2nd of the following year. That was an actress and portrait painter Alicia Rhett. She probably could have had a longer career in acting, but she prefered painting. Best known as being one of the last two living actors with speaking roles in Gone With the Wind. She played India Wilkes, Ashley’s sister. Only Olivia de Havilland surpassed her.
Very well might be me. Played for years, never a point, finally succumbed to the Prince Philipp and Queen rage for the easy-on. Only two I’ve ever gotten. If I would have stuck to my guns of ‘Young Stupid People’ I would be score-less.
