Rickie Fowler just broke the record for a single round with a 62, as well as the birdie record with 10 (Johnny Miller had the latter I believe which got him a 63, half a dozen others have also shot 63’s). This is a guy who has been lost in the golf wilderness for close to 4 years now, and hasn’t been invited to Augusta since 2020. Wowza.
But Xander Schauffele just tied him; they’re 5 clear of everyone else, but a lot of the top players are only now starting their rounds.
With the PGA making a deal with the murderous, lying Saudi family, I’m boycotting them. Still rooting for Tony Finau though.
This is not a PGA event.
Tuned into the final round. Was able to endure about fifteen minutes before I had to hit the mute button. The PGA is just too goddam loud nowadays. I liked it when it was classy and announcers whispered and spectators gave polite little claps. I’m not putting up six frigging hours of “GEDDINAHOHH!!”
Looking back on it, the only time I’ve ever been kinda passionate about this sport was the heyday of Phil Mickelson (who fired me up in a way Lebron James only could’ve dreamed about). I can safely give it a hard pass now.
Wyndham Clark was bulletproof today. No fewer than four holes where he could’ve fallen into a bottomless pit, and he found an escape. In contrast, Rory McIlroy was smooth as silk getting on the green but couldn’t one-putt to save his life. There will be other chances, but at this point we just have to accept…to paraphrase Colin Cowherd a bit…that not every superstar can become a megastar.
It is tough to watch - I think it is very self-serving for the commentators… they love to hear themselves talk and we suffer for minutes between shots. And that droning blimp too.
Paul Azinger tries to have a personality but unfortunately he was born without one.
This tournament definitely showed that the ball (and/or clubs) needs to be dialed back a fair amount. 540 yard par 4’s? 300 yard par 3’s? On anything less than 500 yards it became a drive pitch and putt. This on a sea-level course, understand. Most courses will begin to run out of room to expand any further if nothing is done.
