2024 Oscar (96th Academy Awards) Nominations

I just saw “Poor Things” and I kinda hated it. It was pretty to look at, the acting seemed good, but… I just found that story to be pretty bad. I feel like I wasted 2+ hours. That was the 7th BP nom I saw, and it’s easily the worst.

Wow, I’m just going to have to profoundly disagree. IME everything about Poor Things was great, so much so that it turned me into a fan of Yorgos Lanthimos. It’s why it was nominated for 11 Oscars (including best adapted screenplay) and won in four categories. I will grant you, though, that Lanthimos’s quirky and often explicit style isn’t for everyone, so I’m certainly not going to instruct anyone about why they should like it. I’ll just say that I’m planning to watch it at least once more, and I’ll probably enjoy it even more the second time around.

While I enjoyed both The Lobster and The Favourite, I couldn’t stand this one.

I mean The English Patient was nominated for 12 nominations and won Best Picture and I thought it was the most boring thing ever, so that appeal to authority isn’t going to work for me

Is that you Elaine?

Seinfeld: The English Patient

It reminded me of Sir Laurence Olivier presenting Best Picture for 1984; The Version I Remember Is, he had vision problems, so they didn’t have him read the list of nominated pictures like they usually do, so he opened the envelope, read the winner - Amadeus - and since that would have been the first movie mentioned if he would have read the nominees, a lot of people weren’t sure if it had won or not.

I think the main problem with Pacino’s presentation is, he didn’t say “And the Oscar goes to” before reading the name, but “And my eyes see Oppenheimer.”

Seems like he’s pretty clear? But no, he didn’t read the nominees.
