The joy of the Opening Kickoff is that for a little while a player is in the lead.
But right now, all of us are tied for the lead.
I don’t want to be tied, I want to have it in my own right.
Just once before I go I’d like to at least place in the top 10. I’ve won points in this game, but never even got near the lead
I’ve hit in the themed list already. pbbbtttttt!
I’ve got a quick formula for that.
- When December rolls around, look at the past few years, see which current players are consistently near the top. Four or five such players should be plenty.
- Look at their lists for the year that’s finishing up. Make a list of the people on their lists who are still alive.
- Pick your 13 candidates from that list. If you’ve got time, google the names, since after all, those picks were made a year ago, and things change. That may give you an idea of which ones are at death’s door, and which ones seem to have some time remaining.
If you don’t have time, go with the names that are on the most lists among the top players you selected in (1).
I usually do some research of my own, but some years, the above approach is all I have the time and energy for. I haven’t finished out of the top 10 since 2014.
The search function on this board is weird sometimes. I searched for “Frank Ryan” in this topic and it didn’t show anything.
ETA: And if you search now, the only result that comes up is this very post. Sometimes it seems to parse the titles of hyperlinks, and sometimes it doesn’t.
Although he died last week (year), it’s still worth noting. I don’t think anybody had him on their 2023 list.
A celebrity only software geeks would know:
Pointlessly pointless, Glynis Johns is mentioned in the '23 thread as having held on to all of her points and given up 0 today.
Yes, she would have given me the Opening Kickoff award, as I had her for 2023. The only consolation is that over on the other board I still used her, so there I have the First Cadaver Award.
Actor David Soul gone at 80.
Looks like he gave up on us, baby.
The vampires of Salem’s Lot finally caught up.
But he did provide one of our players with the Opening Kickoff Award.
MarkF2004 gets 20 points
Actor Christian Oliver was killed in a plane crash, along with his two daughters, aged 10 and 12. Oliver was 51.
He also, at times, used the name Christian Klepser.
I just had a Hutch his time was nigh… Arf.
Never mind. Wrong artist.
FYI, Maurice Hines died on Dec 29, 2023.
Oh balls!
For the first time since it’s inception, I forgot to get my Death list in.
Oh well, life happens sometimes.
No points this year.
Following for what might have been.
