Former Broncos and Falcons coach Dan Reeves has called his last time out.
My themed list is former NFL head coaches. Alas, Reeves wasn’t one of the 13 oldest former coaches, so no points for me.
Kay Bernstein, former ultra fan (sounds like a polite hooligan), elected president of our local football club Hertha BSC Berlin in 2022, dropped dead yesterday, just like that, aged 43
Concerning the cause of dead the media write it was not violent, no suicide, nor were drugs involved.
Peter Schickele, musical parodist behind ‘P.D.Q. Bach,’ dies at 88
Now that’s a tragedy.
I’ve been a Peter Schickele fan for 35 years, since being in a community chorus where we sung a number of his pieces. He was funny and clever, and great on stage–I was impressed to see him live at Carnegie Hall in 1994.
Several of his Schickele Mix episodes and PDQ Bach albums are available on Youtube.
Clearly they must play the Fuga Vulgaris at his funeral.
Golden State Warriors assistant coach Dejan Milojević has suffered a fatal heart attack at just 46 years old.
Schickele did write a serious, non-parodic Requiem, I believe for a friend. I read about it in a profile of him in Smithsonian magazine; he mentioned overhearing a pair of fans assuming it was another humorous P.D.Q. Bach piece.
Darn, I had hoped to keep him alive by including him on my list. I will listen to " Concerto For Horn And Hardart" in his honor.
When I was first introduced to P.D.Q. Bach’s music, I remember asking “what’s a Hardart?” Apparently Horn and Hardart was a NYC chain of automats, or something along those lines. A good play on words which I hadn’t had the context to appreciate at first sight.

A unique pick for Allecher
Barber was a standout pole vaulter at the University of Akron, where he captured back-to-back NCAA indoor championships in 2014 and 2015. He won the NCAA outdoor crown as well in 2015, before taking gold later that summer at the Pan-Am Games. Barber carried a wave of momentum into worlds that season in Beijing. He took gold over Germany’s Raphael Marcel Holzdeppe.
World Golf Hall of Famer Jackie Burke, two time major winner, passed away today at age 100, just a few days short of his 100th birthday.
Jackie won 16 times on the PGATour, including the 1956 Masters and 1956 PGA Championship
Wait…he passed away at age 100, and a few days before his 100th birthday?
Guess notfrommensa was rounding up.
I used to read the obituaries of people who died at ninety nine. One time a guy died only two days before his 100th. The obituary was standard, but the last line made it shine.
The party planned for his 100th birthday will go on as scheduled.
Typo. I knew he was a 100. His birthdate was one day different than my mother’s birthdate.
