2024 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

Wow, I didn’t know he was sick. He may not have been a paragon of virtue or accuracy, but Fast Food Nation was a big influence on me when I read it back in the day. I became a vegetarian for a few years after reading it (and similar things).

I also got a lot out of that book.

Except it was written by Eric Schlosser.

Spurlock did Super Size Me.

Oh crap. :woman_facepalming:

Which was completely fraudulent. He refused to release his food diary/journal and others did the same thing as him and did not gain the weight he gained. At the time, it was suspected he drank a bunch of soda. Later, he revealed he was an alcoholic and it is likely he was drinking in addition to his fast food intake.

Still, sad he died so young. I liked his TV show 30 Days.

It raises the obvious question of whether his intensive exposure to nothing but McDonald’s for 30 days may have been a factor. It was certainly a big enough factor for him to gain 25 pounds over that time, and those were not healthy pounds. Who knows what downstream effects that horrible diet may have had. We generally survive bad things like fast food because we have it in moderation.

That was 20 years ago and he did not gain that weight from just McDonald’s.

Nice smile, David!

Cool, what was the occasion?

McDonalds party.
Couldn’t resist.:face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Speaking tour in – IIRC – 2008.

Awww, shucks.

[kicks aimlessly at dirt on ground]

30 days 20 years ago plus a lot of vodka.

We are talking a steady diet of mickey-dees, a lot of vodka is a given (though I would probably go with something like Oban).

Not Dung?

Oh dung sounds like some large, exotic aquatic animal.

“Oh, dung” is what you say when your bell does not ring as expected.

mmm

Caleb Carr, writer of historical fiction mystery thrillers like The Alienist, and son of Julian Kill Your Darlings Carr, died of cancer at age 68.

Apparently he had a long head start with the vodka.

Active PGATour Golfer Grayson Murray dead at age 30. He won the Hawaiian Open earlier this season.

No cause yet, but he has had addiction/depression issues in his past. He was playing a tour event yesterday in Ft Worth TX, and withdrew with a couple holes to play and then was found dead in his home this morning.

I was watching the Charles Scwab Challenge on GOLF TV then it switched over to CBS. When it came on, the commentator was practically in tears announcing the news. Very sad.
