Any news on word of the Democrats doing anything to shore up Tester in Montana? Last I saw he was behind and I’m wondering if Walz could help out with some appearances as he seems to maybe have some appeal there.
Couldn’t find anything online to that effect. Here’s an April 25 story on Tester’s fundraising, though.
It isn’t necessarily to Tester’s advantage to have national Democrats campaigning for him – even Tim Walz – in a state that went to Trump by 16% in 2020. I trust that Tester and his team know what they do and don’t need from the national party and have not been shy about asking for it.
This trifling detail invariably elicits blank stares when I bring it up with MAGAs (on the rare occasions I lose my mind and engage one). This is so counter to their core beliefs, the cognitive dissonance threatens a seizure.
As I posted in the Menedez thread sources are saying that Governor Murphy will name a placeholder replacement for Bob Menendez instead of naming the nominee Andrew Kim. Probably a smart move to keep Kim in the House for now. It shouldn’t affect his chances of winning in November.
The replacement will be George Helmy who was the governor’s former chief of staff. He is of course a democrat
That’s a pretty sweet deal for Helmy. Four months of just voting however Schumer tells him, and he gets to spend the rest of his life being addressed as “Senator” and having lunches in the Member’s dining room.
That sounds like an ad I’ve seen in Ohio, saying that deportation doesn’t work and Brown is protecting our cities, therefore you should vote against Brown.
Wouldn’t a few months give Kim seniority over all of the other incoming freshman Seantors?
It would also deprive House Democrats of another member when they already have two vacancies.
They’re 8 down in seats. Would a ninth make any difference at this point?
The federal government will shut down if Congress cannot agree to a continuing resolution by the end of September. With such a narrow majority, every Democratic seat matters for ensuring that Republicans do not insert any poison pills into a CR. I don’t think it would be the end of the world if Kim got appointed to the seat. But weighed against the relatively small advantage that a few months seniority would give him, I’d make the same call.
Of course, I’m sure Murphy is just pissed at Kim for knocking his wife out of the Senate race. Sometimes impure motives still achieve the correct result.
Incidentally, how is Baldwin doing in the race? I recall reading a few months ago that some Republicans thought she was in real trouble and would be easy to knock off.
She’ll win easily.
ETA: But she’ll have to serve her term from prison – last week, she was convicted of homicide, for shoving a lethal dose of fentanyl down some dude’s throat, with her bare hands.
/s
Polls: she has never been behind.
Brian.
Possibly part of it. Murphy isn’t ignorant of the big picture in Washington. It’s also considered the right thing to do. I know fair play isn’t something that’s common at the moment but Christie also put in a caretaker instead of putting in Republican who was going to run for the seat against Booker when Lautenberg died.
Uh… what?
It appears you missed the /s at the end of JKellyMap’s post.
I’m not 100% sure but I think Baldwin’s opponent has tried to blame her for the fentanyl epidemic in rural areas of her state. Baselessly, I would add.
Having been up at my parents’ house in Green Bay last week, that’s exactly right. During the same commercial break on the local news, I saw an ad for Eric Hovde (her opponent) claiming that, followed by an ad from Baldwin, talking about her work on dealing with the epidemic.
Montana has added an abortion ballot measure for November 5th. That should help drive extra Democratic voters out to the polls to support incumbent US Senator John Tester (D-MT).
