Only if you got a killer parking spot!
The weather reports are saying 4-6 feet by the end of next week around Tahoe, and up to 10 feet farther south. Mmm-hmm - we’ll see.

I meant I’m driving to Italy. How long can you hold your breath?
Ha ley fecking lu ya!
Finally snowing , ai had to clear 14 in of fairly heavy snow from the drive and deck today and coming down some more . Never been so happy to move a pile of heavy snow before.
Waxing up the skis and adjusting binding for the new Nordica boots I bought a month back thus cursing the whole snow situation.
I got two more days in during the break, this past weekend hit the local Indy area for some more laps, working on getting the legs back.
But in late December I added a new ski area and country to my life list. I give you Ski Dubai in the United Arab Emirates; 200+ feet of vertical, one quad char, two platter lifts, and a magic carpet. Conditions didn’t suck, we had two hours of fun.
View from the outside - it’s attached to the Mall of the Emirates
Wow! I’ve seen that before but never met anybody who skied there. What does a ticket cost to ski in Dubai?
So I just got back from a long weekend over the MLK holiday at Jay Peak in Vermont. It was a zoo there on Saturday with ridiculous crowds and long lift lines; Sunday was more manageable, and yesterday had no lines at all (except for the tram, which still had a 20 minute wait).
Conditions were good and it was a nice weekend. This past weekend was actually the first time I’ve been skiing since New Year’s Day. This is probably the longest gap I’ve ever had over the course of any ski season, but we kept getting these rainy warm spells every time I planned a day trip. (I will generally ski in just about any weather condition—including a blizzard—but I hate skiing in the rain.) Now we’re back in the icebox with predicted high temps this coming weekend in the low single digits.
About $75 for 2 hours, including rental gear.
Got in a day at Sunapee on Saturday and Ragged on Monday, a few inches of fresh snow made the mornings great, but by noon each day they were scraped off.
Apparently Vail has not gotten involved. That’s a fucking bargain! All you gotta do is get to Dubai. ![]()
I skied Chachulitaya in 84. I think it was the US equivalent to about $2. The ride up the mountain was Priceless!
The hot cocoa was pretty reasonable too.
Le Massif de Charlevoix in Quebec has closed down for the season due to a workers strike.
Got another day in today. Snow is waning, but it was FAST!
I was planning to head north for a day trip tomorrow but I’ve caught the winter cold that’s going around and it’s going to be a bitter cold day. My wife and a friend are going, I’ll stay home with soup. Big storm coming on Superbowl Sunday, it would have been a great day to ski but not sure the driving will be worth it.
True dat. Superbowl Sunday has always been a great day to ski in the Tahoe area, especially those years when the Niners were playing. It was like skiing on a Tuesday. That’s why I always root for them in the playoffs, which is the only time I give a rat’s ass about pointyball.
I suffered my first ski injury today, after 30 years on the slopes. I was having a great day. Then, some kids cut in front of me and I swerved too hard and fell on the side of my knee.
When people helped me up, it felt too unstable for me to put my weight on it, so the ski patrol came for me with a snowmobile. The staff at their first aid office splinted me up and gave me an ice pack, and my husband drove me to the ER at the small hospital 15 minutes away. After x-rays, they said that it looked like it wasn’t dislocated and there were no fractures, gave me a splint and crutches and said to go to my own doctor and ask for an MRI if it wasn’t better in a few days.
I think I’ll try to get an MRI referral tomorrow because it feels like more than a sprain. It’s sore and stiff, not really painful, but the unstable feeling is scary.
Ugg knee stuff sucks, sorry to hear that.
We have been skiing two days week, but it’s bad in the Wasatch. At least it’s been cold enough for snow making.
2nd ptex repair of the season for my new planks . Should have stayed on the rock skis .
Just got back from a last minute heli trip in northern BC–was shaping up to be epic, then it WARMED up. First day was brutal–wind buff was the best of it. Then we flew and flew and found fast faceted snow. Not waist deep powder, but fun. My injured knee was screaming at the end of each day but was ok by the next morning. Definitely took some of the fun out. Montana is still grim.
Decided to get off the couch, even on a Sunday. Drove up the backside and parked at Stagecoach. The cold temps have made most of the snow ice sheets. Some nice slalom stuff off the sides of the groomers, but a lot of treacherous shit. There is a field of exposed rocks just at the bottom of Comet/Little Dipper that are gonna kill somebody. Not marked at all. Same at the ingress to Olympic chair as well. But we all know about them.
Overall pretty grim, but better than a day on the couch. Got to drive 90 mph down 395 for a few minutes. Can’t camplain about that.
