Mark Discordia
That name triggers a fnord-level assotiation with Illuminatus! for me.
Did he catch pneumonia from his cake?
[edit] I see I was late. D’oh!

Bob Uecker has been pulled from the game at 90.
As broadcaster
Robert George Uecker (/ˈjuːkər/ YOO-kər; January 26, 1934 – January 16, 2025) was an American professional baseball catcher who served as the primary broadcaster for the Milwaukee Brewers of Major League Baseball (MLB) for 54 seasons.

Jumping into a tie for 20th!
Wait, are you sure? Your list had some guy named Eucker.
Hail Eris!
ETA: The funny thing is, about an hour and a half before Hoopy Frood’s post about Mark Discordia, I was just asking another poster in the Wordle thread if she’d seen the fnords.
I hope Bob Uecker finally gets to the Front Row when he meets St Peter. RIP
Juuuuuuust a bit unalive.
Rest in peace, Ueck. You did well.
Sad news. vivalostwages had him in their list and I had him in alternates. He was in rough shape
And another 10 days and he’d have cost me a point.
Fun fact: my dog’s nickname is Oogums – short for “Oogum Boogum.”
RIP, Brenton.

Sorry to be late here, I have been in bed with a cold. Can’t remember the last time I had a cold.
Good grief, this year is starting off with a bang. Five deaths already.

Yeah, I remember back when I first heard about the guy and his back and forth with Seanbaby I was thinking that it must have been a pseudonym. Especially with all the references to Illuminatus! that peppered the early-ish internet.

Dame Joan Plowright, Oscar nominated and Tony winning actress, widow of Laurence Olivier, died yesterday 01/16 at age 95:
Jeannot Szwarc died at age 87.
He directed Jaws 2 and Supergirl, at least that is what I most think of when I think of his movies. Oh, and Somewhere In Time, which I have not seen.
Director Jeannot Szwarc, who made 1978's 'Jaws 2' and 1980's 'Somewhere in Time,' died on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at the age of 85. Jane Seymour, who starred in 'Somewhere in Time' with Christopher Reeve, said the director was a 'true visionary.'
I’ve never heard of him, but he directed Santa Claus The Movie which was the first time I’d seen a huge budget Christmas movie. It’s good fun.
