2025 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

Jean Marsh is now permanently Downstairs.

Apparently a suicide. He was projected to be a first round draft pick until he was charged with vehicular homicide earlier this year.

This is awful and sad.

There is a lot more to the story.

Mario Vargas Llosa dead at 89:

I thought about including him in my list this year. Bad luck, Mario, I can only grant temporary immortality to 13 people!

Prolific character actor Nicky Katt, best known for “Dazed and Confused” and by “Friends” fans as one of the Coffee House Bullies, has sadly taken his own life at just 54.

That fucking sucks. That man was an absolute chameleon on screen. I first noticed him Boston Public, where he played a teacher, and he was one of the two guys who assaulted Samuel L. Jackson’s daughter in A Time To Kill, he got an arrow through his chest in Sin City and kept commenting on it, he was one of the musicians in School of Rock that was hanging out in the van and playing cards with one of the kids, he was a smuggler/scoundrel named Atton Rand (who you could turn into a Jedi or Sith) in the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II

He was great at being unrecognizable. I’ll miss him.

He was also one of the smug Boiler Room guys who roped in Giovanni Ribisi. I always thought he was sharp in that role tool.

He was the guy who revealed Valerie Plame’s identity.
He also came out strongly against Trump. Seems kind of random but his grandson was the star of Young Sheldon.

Elaine Wynn, multibillionaire businesswoman and ex-wife of Vegas mogul Steve Wynn, has passed. She was 82

I just saw the report on CNBC Squawk Box. Can’t find any links.

Don Hasselbeck pro football tightend and father of two NFL quarterbacks dead at 70.

I could have sworn he was already dead. Am I confusing him with Chuck Woolery? Also, what kind of name is “Wink”?

According to Wikipedia, his given name was Winston, so I guess “Wink” makes sense as a nickname.

I think another game show host did die semi recently.
ETA Chuck Woolery November 2024

Brian

On a side note, Chuck Woolery’s last major public “appearance” seemed to be an anti-Covid conspiracy rant on Twitter back in July of 2020:

Trump retweeted it the same day.

Then Woolery’s son came down with Covid a day later and Chuck discretely deleted his Twitter account a few days after that, most likely because of the incredible volume of people mocking him over his original tweet.

Les Binks, former drummer with Judas Priest has died at 73.

I guess both eyes are closed now.

mmm

Wink and Binks. That sounds like a shop name from The Simpsons.

Nice.

He was friend of Elvis Presley as well and one of the earlier radio hosts to realize Elvis was getting a lot of attention as a young talent.

He was just about a year and a half older than Elvis, which is one of those things that is strange to think about.
