2025 SDMB Celebrity Death Pool

I wonder who’s going to assume control of the team. And what kind of changes we should anticipate going forward. Not specifically for this upcoming season, but long term.

Apparently his daughter Carlie was handling things at the summer meetings. It seems like she will be taking over.

My first thought was that he’d been dead for years so why was this news. But then I realized it was Robert Irsay that died years ago, not Jim.

I bet there are plenty of people, especially in Baltimore of course but hardly limited to them, who are still pissed at Robert Irsay after all these decades.

Yes. I haven’t lived in Maryland for over thirty years but Irsay is still a dirty word

Sebastião Salgado, legendary photographer, is dead aged 81. The New York Times shows some of his best known pictures.

Sad news in the comic world.

Peter David has died. Aged 68.

Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty dead at 79

Phil Robertson was not a racist in the show, but he played one in real life.

Anyway, points for me.

Alan Yentob, an absolute titan of British television, dead at 78.

Just reading the article about his cancer and I’m trying to be sympathetic, but…

…he does make it a challenge.

Nonetheless, I wish him as gentle a passing as possible.

GIGOBuster moves up tp second place, and RollOutTheBarrel gets on for Phil Robertson.

He used anti-parasitic medicine to treat cancer and it didn’t work? Go figure.

I think Steve Jobs tried all-natural blah-de-blah to treat his pancreatic cancer. He did admit, I believe, it was a tremendous mistake, but I don’t get how people convince themselves to try anything other than what science has shown to give the highest percent success rate.

Musician Rick Derringer has died at 77.

I did a little searching and found what I think is the source of the fenbendazole woo. A guy named Joe Tippens had cancer and was trying various “treatments” like vitamins and cannabis. One of the things he started taking was fenbendazole, which he obtained from a friend who was a veterinarian (fenbendazole is not legal for humans). Tippens ended up recovering from the cancer, which he decided was due to the fenbendazole.

But here’s the thing. While Tippens was taking fenbendazole and all these other drugs, he was also enrolled in a drug trial for an experimental cancer cure.

So which was more likely to have cured his cancer? A drug used for treating parasites or a drug that was supposed to cure cancer?

Ironically, clinical tests on animals have shown that fenbendazole may cause cancer, which is why it isn’t approved for use by humans. Unless you know a vet who will hook you up.

I think some of it has to do with the severe side effects from chemo. I’m going through it right now and you know what? Still better than dying. So what if I’m bald? Hair grows back. So what if I feel like freeze-dried crap on a stick? My blood levels will come back up. So what if I can barely get off the couch most days? My cat is loving all the lap time.

But then I haven’t convinced myself that the world can’t run without me.
