2026 NBA Offseason [edited title]

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis have been traded to the Miami Heat in exchange for Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks (including No. 13 in Tuesday’s NBA draft), one pick swap and one second-round pick, according to ESPN.

I thought they might make the trade to the Celtics, but it would have been a huge change in Boston.

I guess nobody is safe. I don’t follow the guy, but have his skills eroded or is he just unhappy there?

This trade was in the works for a while. Giannis forced his way out - he lost faith in the Bucks putting a winning team together.

I don’t follow basketball much, buy my impression is he liked the intangibles enough to stay as long as he did. I will miss him.

Sounds like they got 3 first-rounders instead of 2, and have lots of cap space.

I can’t blame them for not wanting to build around 30-year-old Jaylen Brown. He’s been phenomenal but the Bucks must know that they aren’t one superstar away from being a great team.

Now the Celtics have to figure out if they can (or should) move Brown somewhere else or try to ride the Brown-Tatum combo one more time and see if they can make another run.

I can certainly see that.

I also saw a shakeup in the Timberwolves lineup. They’ve traded Julius Randle, who was a consistent 20 point scorer. Seems like a bad idea, but this moves Naz Reid into a starting power forward role, which is about freaking time. And McDaniels will be seeing more shooting opportunities. So a plus overall. Now if they could just teach Gobert how to catch the ball and rebound. . .

Although it’s hard to see how the Miami Heat are going to put together a winning team considering how much they gave away to get Giannis. But I guess we will see.

They basically gave him away by trading their better pick for one a few behind just to dump him. Seems weird, I didn’t consider him a salary dump guy.

He played well for the Wolves. He was aggressive and came through when it was needed in many games.

Yeah, that was my point. He didn’t seem like the kind of player you have to pay another team to take.

Yeah, I was agreeing with you. Apparently the thinking is that he was taking away from McDaniels’ scoring opportunities, and that having McDaniels and Edwards together would make for a better scoring duo. Or at least that’s how I read the artical.

Holy shit: it was just announced that the Wolves have traded Naz Reid to Charlotte for LaMelo Ball and another player.

Another big trade: Ja Morant to Portland. Memphis gets Jerami Grant and Kris Murray.

Man, Ja’s value absolutely plummeted.

Golden State’s Draymond Green is opting not to pick up his player option, and there has been talk that this may set the Warriors up to sign LeBron James.

At the OP’s request, this is now changed to a general thread about the offseason.

There’s also talk that the Warriors hope to trade for Anthony Davis, and hope to be able to do so while still keeping Jimmy Butler and working out a cheaper deal with Draymond. If so, they will be an unstoppable juggernaut in the 2017 season!

They are also going after Lebron. I am not so certain how much of an unstoppable juggernaut they would be to be honest. Juggernaut? yes, certainly. Unstoppable? I think injuries will stop them long before the playoffs. You are not going to have a playoff run with Lebron AD Steph and Butler all staying healthy. If they even make it to the playoffs on two legs.

:grinning: The army of the old and oft-injured. I sure hope nothing comes of it, though it would certainly be interesting and I’m sure would produce a team that would very occasionally blow opponents off the floor. Y’know - in those maybe eight games that everyone is available and playing like they were a few years younger.
