Boston just traded Jaylen Brown to Philly for PAUL GEORGE and a few picks. This offseason is crazy. I don’t understand what Boston is doing here, I know Jaylen Brown is probably not worth his contract, but Paul George is just not a contributor at this point and his contract is just as bad.

The NBA Summer League is experimenting with a free-throw rule designed to speed up the game. It’s a rule that has been used in the G League for several years.
If a player is fouled while making a basket, he shoots one free throw as usual.
If, however, he is fouled during a shot attempt and misses the basket, he still shoots one free throw. If he makes the FT, it’s worth two points, or three points if he was fouled attempting a three-point shot. Likewise, if a player is fouled when the bonus is in effect, he shoots one free throw, which is worth two points if he makes it.
I doubt if great FT shooters like Rick Barry and Steph Curry are thrilled with this rule.
If anywhere, this free throw rule should be used in Middle School and High School. There is no shot clock up through High School and they could use something like this free-throw idea to speed up the game. The NBA moves pretty quick already. I see no need for a change.
In Michigan, the high school athletic association is considering using a shot clock. I find the idea crazy because you would have to employ someone to accurately reset it and keep track of it. Most public schools just have a student or volunteer parent running the scoreboard and possession arrow. They are not highly trained to watch for the ball hitting the rim, etc.
It’s just an attempt to speed up the game without reducing the number of ad breaks.
Kansas is considering the same thing.
In addition to your concerns, I also wonder how every small-town gymnasium is going to install two shot clocks above or close to each backboard. I can just picture a cable running along the wall, down the floor in front of the bleachers, and then terminating at the scorer’s table.
Well, they would probably put the shot clock on the scorer’s table. But having to hit a button to reset that every time the ball hits the rim is a lot for what is sometimes just kids running the scoring.
Other mistakes at the scoring table can just be corrected because they are not time critical. The shot clock? You have to be super-focused all the time on it.
