20th Century Industrialist examples?

In a role-playing game (Immortal, for those who care) I’m supposed to be playing a character who is a British industrialist, playboy, philanthropist, and world-traveler. He was born in 1912. I’m at something of a loss, though, as how to play him. Can anyone suggest a historical figure, or even a fictional character, whom I might use as a model?

I would be greatful for any suggestions.

The words “industrialist” and “playboy” don’t seem to fit together for me.

If you’re looking for role models, the best I could recommend would be Howard Hughes. He was an industrialist, he gave a good deal of his fortune away, the time frame is not too far off. Although he was American, he was quite a dashing figure before he got completely weird and spent his final years as a recluse. And while he owned RKO Studios, he was known to escort (and sometimes marry) beautiful women.

Most of the major industrialists of the 1930s and 40s – when your character would be at his zenith – were pretty colorless. The exceptions would be those, like Hughes, who were also inventors. They always seemed to have more fun.

Hey, thanks a lot! I might work the inventor angle. At least I have somewhere to start with some research.
