It’s a pretty kitty, but not that pretty.

Inflated prices for a standard breed?
From $6K to $22K since last october, and the origin story is fishy? I’ll have the regular cat, please.
Pretty kitty. I saw on tv, this old lady had a cat that was the offspring of a garden variety kitty and some type of wild cat. After the neighborhood cats got their asses kicked, and small dogs didn’t go outside anymore, the authorities told the old lady that she had to keep UltraCat indoors.
If someone wants to buy me a Savannah or a Bengal, I’ll take it - but I cannot imagine paying that much for a cat when there are so many who need homes. Only two of my eight are purebreds, and one of those was a rescue.
It sounds like a pretty good deal to me. You will often find that even the cheap pussies have a cash outlay far greater than you could have ever expected over time. It is worth it to cough up the money for a good quality pussy upfront because the rewards of having good quality health, known genetic stock, and an eager yet gentle personality more than make up for the initial cost.
gets up from desk, goes down the stairs, unlocks front door, descends porch steps, heads out past lawn, stops by the curb, and finds brain sitting in the gutter from the thread title
I agree that guaranteeing genetic health is good (my own puppy suffers from a born deformity in her back legs), but personality? The cat in the second cage from the right at the Humane Society probably has a sweet, gentle, loving personality, and she doesn’t cost $22,000 dollars…
I came here to blast the non-sense of paying for a cat. Then I saw the picture. That is simply beautiful! I want one, really. Pity about the price tag.
I want a cat.
But not for $22.000.
I’m just mad about the thread title. I was expecting something less feline.
Well I have a cat that looks a lot like that one, only prettier. And he just walked into my yard a few years ago.
However, he is not cheap. Whenever I let him out (and he really always wants to go out), he gets into a fight. And he seems to be a lover, not a fighter, so he gets the worst of it. Then there’s a trip to the vet and a big bill. And usually a part of him shaved.
He would be permanently grounded but he really loves going out in the back yard and playing catch with a tennis ball with my son. The two of them have such a good time. And usually he comes when called.
If I’d paid $22K for him I would have to build an extra set of doors to ensure that he never got out, and buy an indoor arena or something.
$22K for a cat? Come on… go to your local humane society and adopt one!
Speaking of expensive cats, while I would never trade my $75 SPCA special for anything, I can’t say I don’t fantasize about owning one of these. They’re a little less pricey, at $3,000 a go.
Cats should be free*, not cost as much as a car.
I despise this “designer” pet trend.
*plus vet fees, vaccinations, food, toys, treats etc…
It’s cute, but I’d rather have one of those squash-face cats.
Just wait. Soon the genetic problems will surface.
Hubbard, or Butternut?
Yes, that cat may be beautiful now, but you won’t think so when the craving for motor oil appears, and the tentacles, and the unexplained 3AM phone calls…
Don’t wait for the health problems to surface - I can assure you that this is yet another “breed” that will be a whole lot more trouble than it is worth. Along with Bengals, Chaussies, etc - it will be one that is tempermentally unstable, difficult to impossible to litter-train, and no fun to live with.
Servals, caracals, forest cats, grass cats - none are domestic pets. Nothing that keeps that size is going to be far enough away from the wild type to be nice to live with. I feel bad for The Wildcat Sanctuary here - they need to take in all the wildcats that folks around the country think they want to live with, and then they also end up with all the crosses that these kinds of “breeders” are dumping out there.
The link claims they grow up to 30 pounds, thats a pretty damn big housecat. Cats are already pretty ruthless predators WRT local wildlife, cranking that up to a 50% bigger animal could add small dogs to the menu.
BAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! He used ‘pussy’ in the thread title when he was talking about a cat! That’s the most hilarious thing ever!
