24 7 Washing Machine Repair?

My wife is calling around trying to get our washing machine repaired in preparation for washing clothes for a trip that we depart upon in 12 hours.
We’re in Akron, OH.
I suspect there’s virtually no or no business that does this.
Am I right?
Not looking for a referral, just curious.

I would think it would be easier to find a laundromat that stays open late.

Why didn’t I think of that. :smack:

A ‘day’ late and a fist full of quarters short!

BobT,

Based on my wife’s exhaustive use of our home phone and the Yellow Pages, the magic 8-ball says you’re right.

Ah. It gets better. The door is actually stuck clothes. With all our underwear inside. A broken Maytag Neptune on a Saturday night is teh suck.

I used to do appliance repair—refrigeration mostly so not all that familiar with laundry. Always was able to repair my own laundry equipment though. Pretty simple stuff actually.

Never heard of a door sticking closed.

Is this a front loader?

Front loader, yes. Maytag Neptune.

Incidentally, we just had the “front boot” replaced due to a big tear in it. Under warranty.

Reading down, hoping to help, came to post #5. Damn. No experience on Neptunes, only related learning is that front loading extractor styles have a locking solenoid on the door (I bought and installed a Wascomat for our firehouse to clean turnout gear).

I’ll venture a WAG-assuming the machine has finished it’s cycle and there is no water inside the drum-unplug it. Push in on the door to make sure there’s no physical bind on the locking linkage, and see if it’s designed to be ‘fail open’. Good luck.

There is no time like the middle of the night to go on a Wal-Mart underwear run!

Yep, because there’s no demand for such service, both because laundry malfunctions are not emergencies on the scale of some plumbing problems and because there are 24-hour laundromats.
