24 year old female ... what do I get her???

Ok I need some help from female dopers…

Mrs.Phlosphr asked me to get our niece a birthday present on my way back home from work today. I said “…No problem, I’d be happy to do that…”

 I didn’t realize I would get present-buyers block and not know what the heck to get.

So folks…She’s 24 young professional, what the heck do I get her. Apparently she likes classy, cute things…But I really want to knock her socks off with it to show I know what I’m doing…Any help would be very very appreciated!!!Thanks folks…
money’s no object, but I don’t want to go crazy…

Cute? How about one of those decorated little mirrors, people seem to like them and they’re small enough to go anywhere.

If you know what kind of jewelry she likes, that’s always a good thing.

Is there a Pier 1 anywhere around you? You could have a sales associate help you put together a nifty gift basket with some candles, wine glasses, and other crap.

Actually why a duck judging by your location you probably know of the one in Old Saybrook …

That is a great Idea…What else though…

It would help to know at least some of her interests.

Does she like wine for instance? They have small fridges that are racked for 20-30 bottles of wine and have temp controls set up to keep (red) wine the right temp (mid to high 50’s). That and maybe a couple of good reds would be a really cool gift. I got my little mini wine cellar for $299.

Adventurous? Get her a tandom skydive. Want to spend a bit more, pay for here to get get certified.

Maybe a short cruise? They have 3 or 4 day cruises for pretty reasonable prices.

Jewelry - Look at some of the designer stuff from… dang, cant remember the guys name, but I am pretty sure this stuff is done by him.

The pictures don’t do the stuff justice. I can tell you nice tanzanite, opal, diamond stuff really gets alot of comments. Gordon’s Jewelers carries this type of stuff.

Then there are flying lessons of all types. Sailplane, heli, general aviation, ultra light, etc… It is difficult to explain the personal satisfaction of getting to the point where you can take any aircraft into the air all by yourself that first time.

Maybe one of the new IPAQs, they are really nice.

If you really wanna show her you love her, give her a day where you don’t check the SDMB even once… hahaha

Try a weekend in a nice bed and breakfast.

If I know more about her and where you are at, I can probably come up with a bunch more.

How about me? The criteria fit just right, and we’re the same age.

You don’t want to “go crazy”? What are you trying to pull? You calling me cheap?

There’s one in Old Saybrook? I usually go to the one in Lisbon. Although they will be opening one in Waterford next year.

Thats funny I was thinking about one of those IPAQ’s they are pretty cool.
No flying lessons though, she hates heights.
Can never go wrong with Gold and Gems, but this is for a niece, on a birthday…I want something cool. IPAQ was a good idea…maybe a palm…not sure yet. I have 5 more hours.

Dang, I miss read the OP. I thought you were to get a “nice present for Mrs Phloshpr” instead of a “present for a neice”.

That changes things considerably… especially the day without SDMB. Sorry about that one.

**why a duck ** Mrs.Phlosphr and I just discovered Lisbon the other weekend. WOW!!! I never knew they could have all those stores soo close to each other, Kohls…Linen n’ things etc…etc…

But thats a bit far from Mystic. thanks though. Nice to know there’s dopers in CT…

Thats ok scott I knew what you meant!

Mystic? Neighba! How ya doin?

I love Lisbon. The Uber Wal-Mart and the Home Depot are a guaranteed way to spend too much money.

Just wait until September of '03, they’re opening a huge complex across from Target. Gonna have a Borders, Pier 1, Best Buy, all sorts of stuff.

Back to the OP. Does she live in the area? Get her a certificate for some pampering at the Norwich Inn & Spa or maybe buy her some tickets for the next big show at one of the casinos.

A gift certificate for a posh salon in the neighborhood is always great. That way, she can get her hair done, or her nails, or a facial, or whatever. Most women love this!

A special pen. Never can have enough pens.

Everyone who is anyone loves gas station gift certificates. I’m a 23 year old female young professional. I love them.

Two words. Laundry detergent.
