I know sequels rarely achieve the tension of the original, but darn, they didn’'t even try.
I thought the opening sequuence was good, and decided to take a chance on the film. Normally a Zombie movie centers on the fact that human failings cause the deaths of the characters. This one was more like a pre-planned turkey shoot.
Who thought that a “code red” for a higly contagious condition should mean “put everybody in a big unsecured room together and Turn Off The Lights!” Most of the precautions for the Infected seemed designed to burst under assult. The military as protrayed in the movie was shown as being more casual and undisciplined then a Detroit hospital. The entire chain of re-infection relied on Don being able to stroll into his wife’s isolation unit (which was not designed to actually contain anyone with the Infection) without encountering a single guard, nurse or tech. No-one should leave arestrained patient alone like that, people have too much history of choking to death and developing bedsores.
If they had really wanted to re-settle London, they should have set up each civilian dwellling with a panic room the inhabitants could live in for a few months. Just give each family unit preserved supplies of food and water, some solar powered radios, chemical toilets and make sure everyone can do Code Red drills before they are admitted to the city. Also, the sniper nests should have had some protection.
How would you have re-settled London?
I finally got to watch this movie, and while it was nowhere close to as good as the original, it is a zombie movie!
I agree with you in general. I would have set up say, each two floors to be entirely locked down… no way in, no way out. As soon as they realized an infection was loose, hit the button and lock it down. At the very least, you could do each building sealed down all the way.
The entire structure of containment was obviously flawed from the start and that’s what made me dislike the movie.
The opening sequence really WAS great, i had such high hopes for this movie after that. I gotta echo the stupidity of their “code red” though, what was to prevent all those people from getting out when one single zombie easily broke in? and after the infection gets loose their answer is to gas the survivors? burn their own soldiers? none of it made any sense whatsoever.
