2LT Jman has returned

Well, I’ve been gone for the past month, as I’ve been at US Army ROTC Advanced Camp for the past 32 days. Now that I’m back, I’m now 2LT Jman. Unfortunately, I don’t start OBC (and active duty) until about 3-4 months from now…so I get to sit. Anyway, I’m looking forward to getting back to SDMB fun!

About damn time. . .

Going to Camp Doha anytime soon?

2LT Tripler

Allow me to be the first to give you a virtual salute.

Congratulations, sir!

What branch did you get? Was it your first choice?

dang, you butterbars are SOOOOOOOO cute…

Wow! I was stationed at Camp Doha back in 1991. I remember thinking that I wanted to go back to Kuwait City after they rebuilt it. I thought it was a beautiful place(except for all the blown up cars and buildings). So, is it nice?

If you’re really just sitting around for a couple of months–i.e. you don’t have to report to anyone for duty yet, take advantage of your status and find your local Air Force Base and see where they can take you via military hops. You can get to Europe for about 10-20 bucks.

[Homer voice] Doha? D’oh![/Homer voice]

First time I saw Doha, Kuwait was still occupied by the wrong people (Feb/Mar 1990) but we got it back. In 1990/91 it was Camp Doha, we waddled ashore there from the mighty might Saipan, 22nd MEU(SOC). City looked better second visit. Cobravert, are you a snake driver or caretaker?

But JMan, no matter what, welcome to the US Armed Services. What’s your job, where’s your OBC, etc, etc…??? As a 3LT (you don’t REALLY become a 2LT until you are out of school and hit your first unit, by the way) enjoy yourself before the real responsibilities arrive. School should be fun!

[sub]I always wondered by the Army calls it “Camp”? Do they do macrame and sing Kumbaya?[/sub]

Major UncleBill, USMCR

darnit…got too happy with the apostrophes at the end of that message.

Wow…that post makes no sense because the previous post never actually posted!

Here’s the scoop, I have not been assessed yet because I was commissioned at the end of Adv. camp, instead of doing camp after my junior year. My first choice is Signal Corps. I should know my branch by the end of September, and then head to OBC between 1 and 3 months after that.

Jman

Just remember, your first branch may not be your last. My dad started out in Ordnance(2LT), went to ADA(2LT/1LT) when it first opened, back to Ordnance(1LT/CPT) when the post CG at Ft. Bliss decreed that all ADA officers at WSMR fall under his command, got out went to law school, came back in as JAG(CPT), got out, into the NG as Ordnance(CPT-COL), and eventually switched once more to Infantry(COL), his last branch before being promoted to BG.

One of my partners in cri- uh, business had a similar frequency of changes. He stared out as an enlisted 11Bushbunny, got out and went through ROTC, went back on AD as Signal, then Infantry after he passed SFQC, followed by SF when it became a seperate branch, then into CA. He got out and then into the NG, going back to Signal at that point, followed by a switch to MP when he was assigned as 45th SIB PM and qualified via correspondence. Now he’s back to wearing Signal while he scrambles like mad to finish C&GS before 05Sep so he can get promoted to LTC.

Me, I was just a 95B10V5 “Reach for the sky! It’s MPI”.
