2nd best "mocumentary"?

OK, This Is Spinal Tap is #1, no question. Even if you disagree you’ll be shouted down by thousands. So what is #2? Would it be The Rutles (surely has the most cameo appearances by big stars)? The Compleat Al? You tell me.

P.S. A Spinal Tap Reunion (1992) is available on DVD in the UK but not in the US? What’s up with that?!?!?

There’s also “Best in Show”, and “Waiting for Guffman”.

Not to mention their latest, “A Mighty Wind”.

Another vote for Best In Show (personally, I enjoyed that movie even more than Spinal Tap).

And, I cannot wait to see A Mighty Wind–I’ll have to fit that in sometime this weekend.

So what aboutBad News Tour? It’s the story of a heavy metal band that goes out on tour, with hilarious results. (Maybe the makers of Spinal Tap saw it and decided to make their own version?)

Forgotten Silver, made by Peter Jackson of LOTR fame. Hilarious, especially if you’re interested in old movies.

Third place would go to Woody Allen’s Zelig. The Rutles would be 4th.

Waiting for Guffman.

I can endlessly watch Julie Brown’s vicious take-off of Madonna, Dare to Be Truthful.

It’s kind of in a different category, but Tim Robbins’ Bob Roberts is very good.

Waiting for Guffman was hilarious. It’s the last time I heard my mom laugh. We watched it on Easter five years ago. The following Monday she was diagnosed with cancer and was gone within two months. It’s nice to remember her laughing.

“Best In Show”

Don’t forget Albert Brooks’ great movie Real Life (1979), which preceded Spinal Tap (1984), and gave birth to the genre.

I know this isn’t a movie-mocumentary, but I dig The Office.

I loved Fear of a Black Hat, which will soon be out on DVD.

did not know that, Knead…that’s my second favorite too! I used to have the CD (Great CD, and best rap CD i (used to) own (besides Paul’s Boutique)).

Thanks!

Best in Show for me.

“LOOK AT HER SHE’S FREAKING OUT!!!”
“WHERE’S HER BUSY BEE?!?!?”

“Guffman” and “Best in Show” are certianly classics.

Though not quite up to their standards, “Drop Dead Gorgeous” did have some funny moments.

But I can also recall some classic Monty Python “mocumentaries” that even pre-date “Real Life” - “Can you lend me a couple quid ? I can pay you back on Tuesday.”

“Take the Money and Run” (1969)

May not be the 2nd best… but it would make my Top 5 pretty much any day…

FUBAR

An Australian TV series called The Games, about the organizing of the Sydney Olympics.

[sub]And I’d put it ahead of Spinal Tap, personally.[/sub]
