2WD drive SUVs, icy winters, and resale

They’re not impossible to sell but keep in mind that when buying new, 4WD may seem like just an option (albeit an expensive one) like A/C or leather.

But when buying used, 2WD and 4WD are essentially two totally different vehicles. Once they’re several years old the 2WD versions of most SUVs are often worth only half what the 4WD ones are.

Not just for snow - in the actual city of Chicago they salt the streets so heavily you’ll get puddles and pools of salt water standing in the streets down to about 15 or 20 degrees F - you do NOT want wet feet at those temperatures! I keep a spare pair of socks in my office all winter just in case the ones I wear to work get wet.

Salt corrosion, again. Salt water reduces the life of tires. I agree, this is not a panic situation, but it is advisible to check the air pressure on a regular basis. I do it as part of monthly maintenance.
