No, you don't need a semiautomatic rifle

In another thread we had the following exchange which the mods have requested we take to Great Debates: The fact that you think that there is no use for semi-automatic rifles in a hunting situation tells me you’ve never hunted and don’t know much about it. So please, enlighten us: what is so important about hunting with semiautomatic rifles that it justifies the huge number of gun deaths in the United States? And how do the British manage without?
