Above is the latest anti gun post to sweep Facebook. What is your take on the information provided?
My personal conclusion and assumption is these were the result of no gun safety training and Idiots and children allowed access to a deadly weapon. People can say that guns don’t kill people, but guns are more likely to kill people than other weapons. Therefore guns are more dangerous than other weapons. Take that as you will, but guns need to be more regulated and people need to be more educated on their proper use and storage. I’m not saying to take guns away, but people need to be taught how to properly own guns.

My take on it is I never worry about the glurge people barf up on Facebook.

My take is almost all of your links don’t work.

On one I could read, the FB quote is this:

I was asleep and my cousin started jumping on my bed to wake me up, so I shot him to death.

Which completely misrepresents what happened. It sounds like the guy was upset his cousin jumped on the bed, and so he shot him in anger. The truth is, they were rasslin’, and it was an accidental discharge.

It’s still incredibly stupid, but not a case of gun-crazy Americans shooting each other with only the slightest of provocations over nothing, which is what I think they were going for.

Your links got shortened at some stage; I found a source with working links.

Those articles are funny as all get out. Or would be, if it weren’t for the killing people and such.

My personal take: Absent a gun the three accidents would not have happened, and the other incidents would have ended in yelling, perhaps slaps or punches.

More guns mean more chances for mishaps. There is absolutely nothing that can be done about it at this point.

Thank you for the fixed links.

Again, my take is the FB glurge is pushing a ‘gun owners will shoot you for any or no reason’ agenda. if they are going for "crazy people have guns and act crazy’ they have a good point, but the introductory sentences don’t support that.
“I ordered some food at a restaurant. When the cashier told me the price, I got upset. So I shot her repeatedly.” There’s no indication in the story that this was the shooter’s reason. For all we know, he heard voices telling him she was a demon. He’s still a nut, though.

“My boyfriend brought a shotgun home and told me I needed to learn how to use it. So I shot him.” Well, apparently he was correct - she DID need to learn how to use it! She shot him accidentally, but “alcohol was a factor.” But that quote is no where in the article. What does it mean - that she was upset that he BF thought she needed lessons?

“After Dad died, I wanted his tractor. My brother wanted it too, so I shot him in the head.” That one seems reasonably accurate.

“I signed a contract to restore this guy’s old truck, but when I told him it was going to cost more than I had estimated, he said he wouldn’t pay. So I shot him.” Yeah, that one’s bad. WTF was he thinking?

“The gun I bought for protection didn’t protect my home from being burglarized. When I saw that I had been robbed, I had a temper tantrum in my front yard. My 13-year-old neighbor saw me and started laughing, so I pulled my gun and shot him nine times.” The article says no one knows what actually happened, but I suspect this is close. I’d guess the 13 year old is the one that robbed him - that’s why the kid was laughing at the guy. Doesn’t make shooting him any better, though.

“I was racing radio-controlled cars with another man. We got into an argument about who won the race, so I shot at him.” The article doesn’t support that quote. It doesn’t say what they were arguing about. One interesting line from the article :“Shoppers told WREG they are scared by how bold criminals are becoming.” Why is this an example of “bold criminals”? Sounds like two yayhoos got into a fight and it stupidly escalated. Sounds like it is a good example of what I think the FB post was going for.

“I like to play with my loaded gun while I watch The Walking Dead. I got a little fidgety while I was engrossed in the show and unintentionally shot my little brother to death.” The article doesn’t support that at all. (It’s a very short article!) Here is literally half the article: Investigators say his 24-year old brother was removing the gun from its holster when it accidentally discharged. Police add, the older brother kept his gun close while watching the popular show, “Walking Dead.” Nothing about 'playing" with a gun, nor fidgetyness.

“My friend jokingly slapped me in the face, so I jokingly shot her in the head with a gun I thought was unloaded. (It wasn’t.)” Sounds like an accurate account. No malice, just incredible stupidity!

“At a gathering after a funeral, I asked a woman for her phone number. She said no (she was with her fiancé), so I shot her and five of her family members.” That one fits the “agenda”. Shot an innocent person for no reason.

My take: while every story is tragic, it reads like the anti-pitbull screeds. Take as many news articles that might possibly prove your agenda (people with guns shoot people for the stupidest of reasons), and hope no one notices how much they don’t.

My takeaway is not “people with guns are bad people” but “for a given amount of the malice/stupidity/craziness that we all are prone to, the presence of a gun raises the stakes - from a recoverable to a non-recoverable outcome.”

You don’t really need to have an ‘agenda’ to see the lunacy of US gun ownership. We have just as many wankers and maniacs in Britain (proportionally) I expect, and this stuff pretty much never happens here, simply because we can’t own guns.

Specifically the UK gun death rate is 41 times lower than the USA’s. (That includes suicides, homicides, and accidents.) It is difficult to ascribe that difference to anything but gun ownership rates.

I saw a sign on the bus yesterday that warned passengers “No food, drink, smoking, nor concealed weapons allowed on the bus”. Which means I can wave around a loaded handgun, as long as I’m not carrying home a bag of groceries or have a Swiss Army knife in my pocket. This is Texas.

Somebody wouldn’t stop sending him Facebook glurge, so he shot her.

Regards,
Shodan

Well I’m convinced. Ban all guns.

Obligatory :

Texas isn’t an open carry state at the present time. “waving” a gun around is illegal everywhere.

My “take” is that in the “$500” thread I picked Halliburton stock as a second choice after originally finding out that “ArmaLite Inc” is privately held and not publicly traded.

If it was publicly held, I’d drop every penny I had in its stock and be a multi millionaire before my kid starts to have tuition bills. I fully expect the congress to now pass an amendment specifically designed to remove from the state
any ability to regulate the sale or possession of any firearm for any reason and to restrict courts from ever ruling on them.

If it was possible, I’d expect babies in our lifetime to squeeze out with an M4 in one hand and an AR in the other. The nurses would then clean them up by shaving their birth-hair into mullets, dress them in Wife-Beater Tees,
and feed them milk from bottles with Marlboro-filtered nipples.

Is this a joke?

I think they’re supposed to be examples of unjustified shootings.

How do they happen at all?

Well… confidentially…

WHOOOSH…! :stuck_out_tongue:
