Idiots With Guns

Found this on Youtube. If you advocate “safe, responsible gun ownership” you have to explain this video:

Idiots With Guns

How is a stupid person hurting themselves with a gun any different than a stupid person hurting themselves with a car, a rock, or any other item?

More to the point, I’m not sure what explanation such a person could offer, other than “this video shows the opposite of what I advocate.”

If everyone started a thread about idiots on YouTube, SD would crash due to overloaded bandwidth.

Two things (both of which you REALLY should have been able to figure out without having to ask anybody else about it, first): 1) Firearms are built for one purpose, and one purpose, only. Even ROCKS have more purposes than firearms do; 2) An idiot (or a drunk person, or someone with anger management problems, or a violent mentally ill person) can do a LOT more damage in a LOT less time with the right kind of firearm than he (or she) can do with just about anything else.

This could have went into the “stupid gun news of the day” thread. The OP should also familiarize her/himself with the concept of selection bias.

unless you can demonstrate that I’m one of those idiots in that video, I don’t have to explain shit.

For myself, I only advocate unsafe, irresponsible gun ownership. Sorry.

Agreed, responsible firearm owners vastly outnumber the idiots, but we responsible owners would make up a rather boring video

If I made a “daily diary” for my guns, 99% of it would simply say “today I sat in the gun rack and gathered dust”

The .22’s would be the only exception and even those would be boring, “went out to the backyard range and popped some metal swinger targets, got cleaned, then back on the rack to gather more dust”

although I will say I am damn sick and tired of those stupid videos where a guy gives his 5’1" girlfriend a magnum 12 ga. with field barrel which is so heavy she has to lean back to counteract the gun’s weight, and gets knocked over by the recoil. “ha ha lookit the dumb chick getting 0wned.”

Maybe the problem is not careless owners but bored guns.

And that ONE PURPOSE is self-defense, correct?

If you don’t agree with that, then how do you explain this?

What policy do you propose to ensure that those things never happen?

The discussion is over poor handling of firearms, not mass murders committed with the aid of firearms. So this is irrelevant.

You know, I’ve heard this point brought up a lot and no one ever says what the singular purpose of all firearms is. Some guns are:
[ol]
[li]Meant for hunting[/li][li]built for self-defense[/li][li]Curios, to test the limits of what is physically possible[/li][li]Art[/li][li]Intended for sharpshooting and target practice[/li][/ol]
So please, tell me what the “one purpose, and one purpose, only” of all firearms is.

he’s waiting for Josh Sugarmann to call him back with instructions.

Does anybody know what kind of gun that is at the 5:00 mark?

A 76mm shoulder-fired mortar.

I dunno, I only watched a few minutes of that video and sure, there were a few complete idiots, but I saw an awful lot of folks that weren’t.

Notice the extensive use of ear and eye protection. See the high number of instructors hanging around. Many of these people are probably firing a gun for the first time. They are learning.

Go find a video of people driving for the first time and make a thread about “Idiots with Cars”.

There’s a reason they used to put those on the ground.

Incredible! You found internet videos of people being stupid! On youtube, no less! What other discoveries have you made lately? Water is wet? Fire is hot? Shit stinks?
