Don’t everyone look at me. I ain’t kissing him again.
3,155 Charter Members now listed on the Forum Leaders page.
C’mon, guys! Let’s win one for the Zotti! Subscribe today.
As I think I said elsewhere I’m encouraged by this as I’ll be launching something similar on a site I administer sometime later this summer.
Of course the real test comes after April 21st. Will the newbies keep coming in?
Modified for comic effect:
I ain’t kissing him.
Again.
Question
I know it will be there somewhere but in spite of much searching I can’t find where the SDSAB appelation came from, what’s it mean?
Please.
Everything you wanted to know, and in this very forum, yet.
I’m in.

C’mon, you know Cecil. Fifteen grand will barely cover the hookers and booze for his upcoming three day weekend in Vegas.
Give until it hurts, people. The man has a lifestyle to maintain!
The rush is on. As of 1100 CDT, there are:

Just curious… where do you find the number of subscribed/charter members?
-
First, go to the Show Groups page, which is accessible from the SDMB’s front page – the one that shows the names of all the forums. It’s the link at the bottom that says “Show Forum Leaders”. It actually shows quite a bit more than that.
-
When you get to the Show Groups page, you **Save As ** the page in the “HTML Complete” format (assuming Internet Explorer). Give the file a few minutes to complete.
-
You open the resulting HTML file in a dedicated text editor program. MS Word will cut it, but I prefer one called UltraEdit.
-
Once the HTML version of the Show Groups page is open in your text editor, run a Find on “Charter Member”. Find the first occurence in the file. Delete all text that comes before the first instance of “Charter Member”. This removes the names of all admins and moderators.
-
Run a Find on “SDSAB”. Find the first occurence in the file. Delete all text that comes after the first instance of “SDSAB”. This removes the names of all SDSAB.
-
What remains is a list of all paid Charter Members embedded in a bunch of code. You’ll need to run one more Find – on the term “member.php?”. Instead of merely finding the first instance, though, you’ll want to run a count. In UltraEdit, this is the Count All button in the Find box. The same thing can be done in Word, but I forget how to do it.
The end result is the number of subscribers.
It’s probably easier to do it in Word via a replace. Just do control-H and change “Charter Member” to “Charter Platypus” or something and let Word tell you, when it’s done, “3297 replacements were made.” Piece of cake.
Still too complicated for me. The easiest way to find the number of subscribers is to check this thread.
It might seem complicated, but that’s only because I went into detail. The whole process, once I get the HTML file saved, takes only about 30 seconds.
That wouldn’t work … “Charter Member” only occurs once in the file. And if you used the term “member.php?” instead, you’d count the mods and SDSAB on top of the Charter Members.
To get a true count of Charter Members, you have to snip parts off from the beginning and end of the file. Then you can do a Replace on “member.php?”.
Just a quick update: We’re at 3322 charter members (not counting SDSAB) as of 12:45 p.m. CDT. I’ve updated my chart, and by the new projection (blue curve), we should hit 3,400. If the last-minute rush keeps piling on, though, we may very well hit 3,500 and make Ed delirious.
