35 years later, how many Kuntas/Kizzys are there?

I’ve never known anybody named Kunta. I know of two Kizzys, though – one was a woman with whom I IM’d on a now defunct message board; the other was the great-aunt of one of my oldest friends. Her real name was Keziah, as referenced upthread.

Kiz is not my RL name, btw. I never thought of Roots when I adopted it – I just wanted something short that started with the first letter of my RL first name. I got slammed for it on a message board (not the same one I mentioned above) when it was discovered that I wasn’t African American. Somebody pointed out Keziah/Kiz, and that was the end of it.

Working in personnel I’ve noticed a lot more ethnic names among the younger employees. Instead of Mary, Alice, Kate we get Lashawn, Latrice, Tanisha. Instead of Bob, Tom, Bill we get Lamarr or DaJon, Le-Vaughn.

That whole Roots thing definitely had an impact.

There was no one named Lashawn, Latrice, Tanisha, Lamarr, DaJon, or Le-Vaughn in Roots, so it’s hard to figure out where that last sentence came from.

Have any of these people actually BEEN to Indiana? Of course not, because Indiana isn’t the kind of place you go, unless you have family there. It’s the kind of place you drive through to get to somewhere else.

Why such a slam on Indiana? There’s a little car race up there every year that seems to attract a little attention.
