386DX - Wierdest cover group I have ever heard

This group uses a 386 DX / 4Mb RAM / EGA / 40 Mb HD and a synchronized text-to-speech and midi synthesis to cover some popular songs. The result is… interesting. They have lots of sample MP3 and Realaudio links as well.

I’m certainly not going to put any of their sample MP3’s into my regular playlist, but I think my life is richer somehow for listening to “Smells like Teen Spirit” sung by the creative labs voice synth.

note - I’m not affiliated with this group or page in any way. I just picked this link up at Fark and had to share.

Aw.

That’s nuffink. Dig this. Music… as sung by dictionary pronounciation guides.

E-Sabbath, what did you think of the songs from the OP?

Very interesting…

Although they butchered House of the Rising Sun. I was wondering what those belted-out high notes would sound like in synth, but they couldn’t even hit them! Why try?

Those are great. I like the 386DX tracks more than the dictionarioke ones.

Frankly, I think 386DX is better music. I just happen, for no reason, to like the disjointed dictionary voices.

A pale imitation of The Flying Lizards. Unfortunately, I can’t find any good samples of them online. But if you ever have the opportunity to listen to their version of Sex Machine by James Brown, do it.

And a word to 386DX. (This is a hard-and-fast rule, so the everybody else should take this to heart, too.) If you’re going to do a Mamas and Papas song, like California Dreaming, do the freakin’ harmonies!

Too much like Shatner.
