I’ve got 39,000 Lire (pre-euro italian bank notes) from a trip to italy about 10 years ago. I imagine that an Italian bank would still exchange them for euro, so I was thinking about mailing them off to a charity in Italy. Anyone have the address of a worthy cause in Italy that could use a few bucks?
Hmm. 39,000 Italian lira is about USD 26.78. There’s postage, too. The Italian central bank, and only the Italian central bank, will exchange lira notes until February 2012: http://www.ecb.int/bc/exchange/html/index.en.html
Seems like a lot of bother.
Maybe you could just give it to an Italian?
You might be able to sell them to a coin dealer. Depending on condition, I’d guess you’d get $10 to $25 for them.
