I’m seeing printers now under $500 that do the color blending I’ve been waiting for. But this brings up the next question, is there much resources for the colored print files?
Looking at your image, I’ll just point out that ad copy is going to pick the examples that work best, and in particular, aside from the two orbs, that object has each layer in only one color. In fact, that effect could be achieved with an ordinary, single-filament printer, with a variegated filament, in which case the colors wouldn’t be present in the model file at all.
EDIT:
Correction, the “two orbs” are actually three dice, which were clearly placed after the tower was printed, not printed themselves. So the whole thing could have been done with one filament.
Well, they could have done it by actually blending filaments. Even if that’s what they did, though, it still works a lot better with the colors oriented that way, so each layer is all the same blend. I’d certainly want to wait to hear from some neutral reviewers, rather than just going by what the company is choosing to put in their ads (and the reviewers would probably also say something about the availability/ease of creation of relevant models).
