You poor, sweet dear. How did you find the strength to soldier on through your day?
Well, I did have to go out in public today. Mrs. L.A. suggested I get my cow-orker some truffles like I got her for her birthday. Oh, and while I’m at it I can get some for her too.
(There’s madness in her method. Wait. Reverse that. Thank you.) They’re very proud of their truffles, which are $3 each. Wifey and the cow-orker each get four.
Mrs. L.A.'s prezzies are wrapped, and there’s a card from me and a card from the cats. Cow-orker’s present is wrapped. (And the truffles are in a little box.)
butters, Perry sounds like a nice little town.
{{{silenus}}} Coming across the little things are what got me too.
Irked, came home, walked Nelson and et. Putting together the to do list for the trip. I’m stoked. Just one more day.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Howdy Y’all! It’s been a dreary coldish day. A good day to stay inside and sloth. Also pretty much Christmasy weather in these parts. Looks like we shall have rain overnight and tomorrow. TWPTB are sayin’ a high of 75 for Christmas day. Go figure. Anywho, sup got cooked and et and now we continue chillin’.
Sous vide steaks were a hit! Next, I’ll try chicken… or salmon. Haven’t decided yet.
And Roxy has had 3 days with no accidents!!

Chillage continues…
I’ve stopped trying to add up cable and streaming charges, as I’m sure it would be a shockingly high amount. I know that Comcast alone is about $213/mo., and we subscribe to several other streaming services. I guess as long as it doesn’t exceed the dollars coming in, we’re good to go.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 35, I shall have to bundle up for indoor work.
But you’ll no longer be closer to outer space than to a Wal-Mart. But closer to drive if any of us visit. ![]()
For a toddler: Great!
For an airline pilot, not so good. ![]()

I got rid of cable/satellite years ago. I don’t miss it.
I figured out I was watching six of the 900 million channels offered, and mostly was only watching three. I was also paying a fee for the sports channels, that I never watched.
I was offered a package of just the channels I watched, and that was more than getting all of them.
Some asshole decided to pass an 18-wheeler tonight and came close to hitting me head on.
OAOASO called me tonight. He has to transfer some money and needed my help. The money needs to be there tomorrow, and he called me after 5pm. Nothing like waiting until the last minute.
The only way I could figure out to do it was transfer his money in Bank A to my account at Bank A, then transfer the money from my account at Bank A to my account at Bank B, and then transfer the money to the recipient at Bank B. Only I wasn’t sure the funds would be available tonight at Bank B. He couldn’t use zelle because of the amount.
I don’t know why he always waits until the last minute to do things.
Anyway, he figured out another way to handle it.
It seems he is moving again, and he says this time he’s not taking anybody (his family) with him.
I’ve heard that one before.
Evening all. Pretty much a nothing day, Jack’s provided the evening sustenance (the left the onions on, however) and the Browns found another way to lose, so nothing new there. Got my gas bill, so will pay that tomorrow and should be all caught up for 2021 billage. Checked the OPM (government personnel office) and am getting a fairly nice bump on my cost of living for 2022.
Sari, there are some people that just cannot plan ahead and always await the last minute. I try to plan ahead (being in a career that had closely monitored schedules will do that) but admit that during college, the term papers got typed the night before they were due.
FCM, the Emoji’s were tinsel (at least that’s what it says when I mouse over it), but given the topic matter, it does look like something else… ![]()
Bumba, safe driving.
“The beatings will continue until morale improves.”
Butters, glad there are no stairs. Gets more important as the years go on.
OK, onward into the evening. All y’all take care.
I see you know most of the District Managers I’ve had.
I’ve started to post this three times. It’s been a busy day. My back is about the same, but I gritted my teeth (or teethed my grits) and got a lot done despite the rain/snow/rain ambivalence on the part of Mother Nature.
I might have PT tomorrow. I don’t know for sure because the very ditzy, very new person at the PT place, who asked for my email address three separate times, never sent me my appointment schedule.
So today I fielded many calls. (For some reason, today was Call Nellie day. What they called me, I won’t reveal.) My contact lens arrived–YAY!–so I went to pick it up. My friend who’s also my housecleaner is down with an injured back (It’s going around, I guess.), so I boxed up my Christmas gifts to her and took 'em to the P.O. I went to two pharmacies to get at-home COVID tests, but both were out. (I’m just being cautious before heading to son’s house.) Got yogurt and bananas at the grocery store, washed the bed linens and remade the bed, and ran and emptied the dishwasher. Cleaned out the fridge. Took out trash. Whew! My back is killing me, but it’s not ruling me.
I haven’t braved putting in the contact lens yet. I’m a-scairt. If this one doesn’t work, I’m SOL. Please cross fingers.
My brother and his wife called en route to a doctor’s appointment. It was so funny listening to them bicker about directions. “Turn left. Now! Right there! You missed it!” “No, I didn’t. I remember exactly where this place is.” “You know better than the GPS?” “Apparently I do… Damn, where IS this place?” They’ve been married 48 years and have set scripts, I think. Once my sister and I remarked that they seem to bicker a lot, and they were astounded. I guess maybe bickering is their language of love.
Yikes! This gives me the willies, and I wasn’t even there. Glad you’re still with us.
Hooray for the RoxStar!
Yum! I’ll have to check out this Goldbelly.
{{{{quietly}}}}
Please don’t do this lest you end up like me. You really don’t want to like be me where this is concerned.
Hubs and I made an agreement back when we were first dating. If we are going somewhere and he listens to my directions and we get lost it’s all his fault because he knows better than to listen to me. A few years ago, the first time I took him to my friend’s place out in the middle of nowhere, we started on the other side of town because he didn’t want to drive another mile to get to my first landmark. We got lost. We got into 4-wheel country. Hubs put the car and park and pounded the steering wheel while yelling “F*** This is MY F****** fault. I F8888ing know better!!!” We’ve had GPS so long that I think he forgot how it used to be.
We turned around and found our way back to my landmark.
Butters don’t just look at stairs. Look at closet doors, if you end up using a walker will you still be able to get through the closet doors? We considered many of these things when we moved into this place, but we forgot some and had to have strangers in our home dealing with correcting them. We have probably still forgotten things ![]()
Speaking of strangers in our home, hubs accidentally damaged the color wall in our living room. He took one of the wall chips to the hardware store and had some mixed, the painters will be here on Thursday.
Our cats don’t go outside, they have a catio. The across the street neighbors have a cat who likes to hang out on our patio. Hubs the pushover gives porch kitty gooshy fud every night and wonders why porch kitty (who is well fed at home) sits at the glass french door and begs to come in.
Porch kitty thinks that he belongs inside with the rest of our cats and has fooled other people into letting him in. I won’t be home when the painters are here but hubs has agreed that he will remember to tell the painters to not let PK in no matter how much he begs.
OMG, this reminded me - sometimes for kicks, I peruse real estate listings. Absolutely no intention of buying, but I’ve always liked the shopping part, looking at how people decorate their houses. WELL, I came across one that had THREE color walls in their living room. One was red, one was purple, one was orange. Yep, it was stunning!
And eons ago when FCD was in college, he rented a room from a couple. The room had two wall painted Golden Arches Yellow and two were Dunkin’ Donuts Pink. It took four coats of a nice neutral gray to cover those awful colors!
I need to get a thermostat like the one we used to have. We got a new one with the new HVAC and I hate it. The old one had a “Circulate” feature whereby the fan came on at set intervals just to move air thru the house. That way, even when we just had the pellet stove on, the warm air made its way around. But this new device lacks that setting, and it gets freekin’ cold in the bedrooms!! It’s 25° this morning, and I swear, it must have been in the 50s in our bedroom. So I turned the furnace on, and now I’m going to shop for what I want, dammit!
FCD goes to our family doc today for pre-surgical tests and stuff. Two weeks to new knee. He started talking about putting it off till fall and I had to get on his case. I know he’s been in a lot of pain for a long time (mostly his fault) but that knee has to be replaced. Period. I have spoken!!! I won.
I think today will be trash/recycling day, after I empty the truck. I don’t think it will all fit in my trunk, tho I might try. And I need to get milk and break. I’ll tend to this while he’s at the doc’s. The rest of the day, I’ll figger out as it goes along!
Happy Tuesday!!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 40 Amurrkin out with rain with a predicted high of 45 and rain for the day. Today is laundry day. Woohoo. However, 'tis a nice day to stay inside, warm, and dry. Sup shall be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
Morning all. Got reminded yesterday (they always call the day before) that I have a dental appointment for today (11:15) for cleaning and general maintenance on my teeth. Also need to pay the gas bill and get some cash out, so will be occupied a bit during mid-day. Will have the usual 2sday Mac-n-Cheese, but will eat it early so I can run the dishwasher this afternoon and have all the dishes cleaned and put away when I leave tomorrow. Also have to pack, so a busy day (at least as I define busy these days).
OK, onward into the day. All y’all take care.
Good morning everyone.
It’s currently 33 degrees with an expected high of 40. Temps never got much above 35 yesterday and some places saw a little snowfall. There was a little bit of chunky rain for a while, never any actual snow around my house.
I got a few presents wrapped yesterday, and put one of them together so it’s ready to go when Zoe opens it. I have several more presents to wrap, plus I still have a few arriving in the mail. I cannot believe that I am out of shirt/clothing boxes. Amazon boxes will have to do. I have those in abundance. I am also just about out of bows. I haven’t had to buy clothing boxes or bows in years, so it’s kind of a surprise that my stash is depleted. I thought about getting some shirt boxes, but does anyone really care? The grandkids won’t care a lick, and the adults won’t either.
Erranding may or may not occur today. I realized I need wood glue for a project and I don’t have any around here. I also need to get a fat separator. I am sick to death of trying to remove fat from my drippings for gravy, broth, and stock with the iced spoon method. I used to have a fat separator, but it cracked some years ago and I never got around to replacing it. I don’t know why.
That is great news about Roxy, FCM! Zoe manages to stay dry and uses the potty to pee but has some issue with actually pooing in the potty. She’s done it a few times but still runs to hide when she has to poo. Unfortunately, she now wears underwear, so that is pretty messy to clean up.
I’m sorry your back is still aggravating you, nellie. I really hope something positive happens with that soon. I’m glad your contacts have arrived; now put them in! The longer you wait to see if they work or not, the less time you have to react and do something if they don’t.
The dumb garbage company didn’t respond to my email yesterday, so I will call them today. I am unhappy about that. My dang recycle bin is full and is not scheduled for pick up until New Year’s Eve. I really need it emptied!
Welp, gotta finish caffienation and then take a shower. Things to do, probably places to go. Much to be done.
That was Roxy’s big issue also. And, yeah, cleaning the underwear was the fun part…
It’s so weird that she’s smart about so many things (like pointing out to her mom that a swing is a pendulum) but she just doesn’t care about having a poopy butt. Tho maybe
we’re past that?? ![]()
I managed to fit the trash and recycling in my trunk, so I’ll head out shortly. And I won’t have to haul it again till after the first of the year sometime. Huzzah! I’m showered and dressed, I cleaned the catbox, and (obviously) gathered all the household trash. So shortly, I’ll bundle up and head out. It’s above freezing - I guess that’s something.
The latter can be explained with the words “paint sale.”
The former … well, I got nuthin’ for that.
All is not well in overlyland. I got the call yesterday morning. “How do you want to pay your last respects to your father?” He’s gone from capable of walking, coherent conversations and ability to recall a bit to fully bedridden, medicated due to the pain and now refusing all food within a span of about two weeks. So my sister is flying in early and we’re driving up to see him, or the him that is still there. I guess that it’s better that he not linger, but I didn’t know it would hurt so much.
Also, that damn thing in my mom’s mouth that has been there for weeks that has coincided with the return of salivary function is still there. Could be fungus. Could be late developing post-radiation ulcers. Could be partial necrosis. Could be pre-cancer or even cancer again. So we’re going to see her surgeons physician’s assistant today (surgeon is out of town) to find out whether we need to worry or not. I shouldn’t have googled it, but I’ve been looking at pictures of oral cancer for days thinking, “Well, that doesn’t look like her mouth. Not that, either. Nope. Well, the statistics are in our favor, but…” I’m rooting for fungus or even partial necrosis, which are more easily treated.
Sorry to be a downer, guys. I’m screaming in my head. I was joking with my sister the other day that I should’ve known better than to be excited for such an extended time away from work. Last time I got this excited about sleeping in we had to do a wellness check on my mom and she was in the hospital for two weeks. This is way worse.
Happy Toosday!
Friggin’ 24 degrees at the park this morning.
Four people and five dogs showed up.
Echo and her friend Coco did not want to leave. As much as Ripple likes the cold, he was long ready to go home.
The cat woke me this morning. He is staying in all the time now and I guess he needed to go out. I’m a bit surprised he’s staying in so much; he usually doesn’t mind the cold. I remember worrying about him last year when it was so cold and we couldn’t find him to bring him in.
I’m a little worried about the strays, but there isn’t much I can do for them except feed them.
One of my friends puts out heated houses for the feral cats. I’m nervous to do that as another friend did, it caught on fire, and she almost lost her house.
