It’s a chilly 34 degrees outside, supposed to get up to 54.
The pups are wiped out from yesterday, not bugging me to go to the park this morning. Ripple didn’t even want to get out of bed.
Anyway, for me all the holiday stuff is done, nothing special to do anytime soon, which makes me very very happy.
Friend2 didn’t show up for the House Cleaning Party, but we got some stuff done. Not as much as I had hoped. I have a bunch of bags in the back of the truck that need to go to GoodWill or someplace. She was going to put them out for Purple Heart, but Friend3 and I were pretty sure if we left the bags there she would go back through them and pull stuff out.
I heard Friend1 muttering under her breath a few times, something about me being an authoritarian. She thought I was kind of brutal about getting rid of stuff… she still has two closets of clothes hanging on rods and four closets with shelves of folded clothes… and that is just the fall/winter stuff. We didn’t even make it to the spring/summer stuff in the basement.
I think I was not brutal enough… but Baby Steps.
Her grandchildren got into the act this week and her kitchen was absolutely beautiful. I hope she can keep it that way. I told her she will feel so much better when she gets rid of the clutter. You feel like you can breathe again, and it’s a lot easier to keep a clean house clean.
So today I have to take the clothes somewhere, and make a mess of phone calls - Joy and Happiness there.
It’s another dreary day after a loverly weekend. No real plans for the day, tho I do need to push the vacuum cleaner around. And we’ve got a guy coming this afternoon to give us an estimate for insulating the shop attic. And, of course, there’s the RoxStar!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 67 Amurrkin out and foggy (we are under a DENSE FOG ADVISORY) with a predicted high of 79 with possible rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon, or not. We shall see. Today we shall spiff da cave and whatever else comes to mind, I reckon. Sup shall be salmon patties, smashed N.O.T., peas, and bizkits per request. Also I have Vestry meetin’ tonight. Rah. Oh yeah, I suppose I should read over financials, minutes from the last meetin’, the budget proposal for this year and stuff before hand.
Sari glad y’all made some headway re your friends de-clutterin’. You were wise not to leave stuff there. Good on the grand young’uns for gettin’ the kitchen squared away!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day. Rah.
Alas, I turned off my balcony holiday lights this morning for the last time until next Thanksgiving. There’s snow out there, so I guess I’ll wait until Saturday to take them down and put them away for the season. Time to accept the harsh reality of January and soldier through the rest of the winter.
Good morning all. Sari, hope your selfless actions do some good and your friend doesn’t use it as an excuse to go on a shopping spree to replace all that missing stuff…
44F outside, heading for 62F and rain is predicted for the next couple of days. Will continue to try and move stuff around for the pickups/moving 18-20 January.
Lights, if they’re not down should at least be turned off by now.
I got a (legit) email this morn. It’s from a company that has an interesting concept. They coordinate with a theater in a number of cities/towns all over the US to show a given indie film/documentary on a given weeknight. The theaters get extra revenue on a slow night. The film gets extra viewings, & the company putting it all together makes a little coin for their efforts. I have seen other of their movies in the past.
The next one is Wed Jan 29th & it’s called How to Bee - How To Bee follows the journey of a father and daughter over three beekeeping seasons as he passes his knowledge on to her and they come to terms with his changing health. How To Bee is a celebration of life in all stages set against the unique backdrop of Canada’s North.
I don’t believe any of our US Mumpers are beekeepers; to do that you’d have to be Nuts.
My Christmas stuff is down and put away, except for the string of Santa lights that is on my banister. I can keep lights on inside if I want. Friday night the weather people were all in a tizzy, what with predicting rain, then freezing rain/accumulating sleet, topped off with 4-6 inches of snow for Saturday. I made a mad dash to visit Ariel and was home by 11am Saturday. Guess what happened? Nothing. Got maybe 2 inches of snow. Spent the weekend watching British murder mysteries.
Just averted a minor panic. Remember when I had to cancel my credit card and get another? Well, I’d forgotten that it was the card used to pay for our company domain name. It was due to be paid last month. Today, **FCD **wasn’t getting emails and asked me to investigate.
We’re paid up now - just waiting for everything to reappear. Our website guy says it can take up to an hour because Comcast.
Meanwhile, I just put Roxy down for her nap, giving me a little quiet time. We’ve already made the grocery run. I should be in for the day. Theoretically.
First snow of the season. There isn’t much; maybe ¼" under the deck roof (in the catio), and it looks like less than ½" on the exposed deck. It’s about 20ºF outside. I put a lamp up in the corner of the deck roof with a 75 w bulb in it. (It’s rated for 60 w, but I used what I had.) Last year I found a dead hummingbird on the beam, and I hope the light might keep them warm if they need it. I’ll have to bring the feeder in to thaw, but I have to sweep the snow first so I don’t slip. I’ll do that after it gets light.
No snow in the forecast tomorrow, which is good since I have to drive to Seattle.
Kiko and I went to breakfast, which is rare. And I shared the omelet with him.
Kiko’s dog fight wound is healing. I told him that he would have a scar. He said it was okay and that the chics dig it. He tells them it happened in the war.
We are going to the bank today. Need some fun tickets. Rent is due on Wednesday.
Also, the cats are out of food. I tried to entice them with Kiko’s food and they wouldn’t get into it. The feed store is far, so it will be another five kilometer day of walking. Good exercise. I don’t need no stinkin’ gym membership.
Hoping the housekeeper comes tomorrow. Hasn’t been in a month, due to family stuff. I could do her work, but then what would she do?
Okay troops.
I got promises to keep,
and miles to go before I sleep.
My pups are worn out.
Ripple was already tired from yesterday. Echo was raring to go, but there were a lot of runners in the park today and she got a good workout. She runs her little heart out trying to keep up with the big dogs. After getting rolled by Lily and Toby she was ready to go home.
MetalMouse, it’s not really selfless. Friend1 has done a lot for me (and others) over the years. She is one of those people who never needs anything or asks for help, so now it makes me happy to be able to do something for her.
No worries about her going on a shopping spree Swampy. She has no money. I told her though, if she donates the clothes that are too small, and then she loses enough weight to need smaller clothes, that I would take her shopping for new stuff. But then she has to donate all the stuff that is too big.
I thawed the hummingbird feeder, emptied it, and filled it with fresh nectar. A hummingbird came and took a long drink, then just sat on the perch as if to say, ‘I think I’ll just sit here and digest and then drink some more.’
I am overtired. Not sure why.
I am due an IV. My clinic visit is tomorrow. That will perk me up. I hope.
I am cooking butter beans and I’ll make çornbread.
Afternoon all. Had the X-Large sub sammich at Jersey Mike’s and have an appointment at 3:30pm for the fence people to come out and look at the mess. Otherwise the afternoon should be quiet.
And BTW -------- I may mean both at this point.
None ever went up so getting them down was easy-peasy. And the Christmas card box and Santa gear is back in the attic. So I’m ready to rock and roll Easter or sumptin.
Still trying to get the company website on line again. The company we got the domain from said I could see that the domain is not pointing to our server. - I assume our website host needs to fix that, so I sent him an email. I wish we had an IT person who could deal with this stuff.
I just finished pushing the vacuum around. Now I guess I should entertain Roxy for a while. Rah!
Fried eggs, a slice of toast, and some bacon for breakfast. My low-carb bread was mouldy, so I had a slice of Mrs. L.A.'s real multi-grain bread. Yum.
I brought the hummingbird feeder in to thaw.
I’ve been logged onto work for over five hours. I think I’ll take a break and go to the supermarket. We need more bread. I’m going to make meatloaf tonight. It’s hot, it’s hearty (NB: I don’t actually put hearts in it), and there will be leftovers so Mrs. L.A. can heat it up tomorrow before I get home from Seattle. FWIW, I use dad’s recipe – which he undoubtedly got from a Lipton’s Onion Soup Mix box – with two pounds of ground beef and one pound of ground pork. Unless they have veal. Mrs. L.A. likes it when I use veal instead of pork.
I’m so envious of you having hummingbirds. I mean, our local birds are nice 'n that, but…
The weather was vile here today, including some genuinely impressive rain, but it’s still really mild; I’ve only had to scrape ice off the car once so far this winter. Other years it’s been almost every morning.
Good on ya for decluttering Sari, I need to do it a bit here; it’s not bad yet, but this is the first place I’ve ever had more than a bedroom for my stuff, and I’ve spread out. That’s fine, except one way or another I’ll be moving house this summer. Hopefully to somewhere slightly bigger if anything, but stuff’s pretty up in the air. I’ve been sorta kinda offered a job from September, which would be a major step up from anything I’ve had before, but I’m not really sure if I want to do it. I like the actual place (it’s where I’m working now), but not the area it’s in, but then it is cheap; cheap enough to probably buy a house, if I like it enough to stay. Also… do I really wanna be a teecher? It’d be largely adults or at least 16+ who’d chosen the course, and I can get the training free, but… eep.
Website issues seem to be resolved, except with our ISP. Daughter said last time we went thru this, it took about 24 hours.
If one or two of you would kindly do a search for me and see if our site comes up - do a search for First Article Engineering - one of the results should include a Woodridge Drive address - click on it and let me know if you get the page. Thanks ever so…
We went to a house this year that they filmed for next year’s edition of one of those Xmas light shows. We were talking to a neighbor who helps out with it; six weeks to put up & another six weeks to take down; basically the entire basement & garage.
They get a pass as long as 1) they’ve started removal & 2) the lights are off.
