4 hours in Annapolis?

I’m driving from Pocomoke City, MD to Dorsett, VA. I have a day to make the distance, so I’ll probably have a few hours to spend someplace along they way. I rejected DC due to the difficulty parking and the desire to come back for a longer time on another trip, so was thinking Annapolis. Thought I might tour the capitol building. Anthing else worthwhile.

Annapolis is not far from Baltimore, another place the Continental Congress met.

I did some sightseeing some years ago on my way from DC to Philadelhphia.

Edgar Allan Poe’s home was not open for tours when I was there, but you can check that.

I also toured Fort McHenry which was cool as heck.

I did stop at EAP’s gravesite, you can check it out on www.findagrave.com, you can key in a lot of names to see where famous people are buried.

I do know Harriet Lane is buried in Baltimore also, but did not see her grave. She was James Buchanan’s Niece and White House hostess, a First Lady substitute, as he was the Nations only bachelor President.

George Washington’s home Mount Vernon is only about 18 miles or so south of DC.
He and Martha are buried on the grounds and plus the bed he died on is still in the bedroom on display.

How hard is it to visit the Naval Academy these days? It’s been several years since my one visit.

+1 This is great if you can get in. The museum alone could fill half a day.

St. John’s College is also in town, and the last time I was there there were signs specifically telling you that visitors are welcome on campus (possibly to distinguish them from the Naval Academy where you need to pass a checkpoint). This is a very old school, at least by American standards.

The MD Statehouse in Annapolis can be quite interesting if you are into history.

The Naval Academy does have visiting hours, and it’s a great place to kill some time.
