We decided last night that we need a break… so, if the in-laws agree to come stay with the Perfect Child[sup]TM[/sup] for the first weekend in Oct, hubby and I are driving to Annapolis for the Sailboat Show. I’m doing the hotel search - methinks we’re going to wind up in Waldorf or La Plata, but that’s no biggie - we know the area well.
I’m so excited - I love the sailboat show and I love Annapolis! And there’s the bonus of 3 nights in cheap hotels with the love of my life! Woo hoo!
I’m 15 minutes from Annapolis Harbor. The Ram’s Head Tavern is 13 minutes from my house. They serve good food and great beer. They are open on weekends. Am I being too subtle, fellow dopers?
I’m with Spritle, FFCM - this had better mean a Dopefest!
Annapolis would be an excellent place for one; I don’t think we’ve done one there yet. Ram’s Head sounds fine with me.
Oh, and lodgings - Waldorf and LaPlata are a bit of a hike from Annapolis; Bowie’s a lot closer, and has a couple of the big chains (Comfort Inn, Hampton Inn) plus there are some motels along 301 between Bowie and Upper Marlboro that date from before the Interstate Highway Era, if that’s more what you’re looking for. Try doing a Google search with ‘Bowie MD hotel’ or ‘Bowie MD motel’ and see what pops up.
The inlaws have agreed. My leave request has been approved. Hubby booked us into a very nice suites hotel where his company gets a great corporate rate - in Fredericksburg. Yeah, I know it’s a drive - we used to live in F’burg - but that doesn’t matter!
Regarding a Dopefest, I’ll talk to my other half - he doesn’t quite get into these things like I do, but I’ll see if I can persuade him. Friday night? Saturday night? We’ll be heading back down I-95 on Sunday morning… If there’s sufficient interest, I’ll turn the ol’ puppy-dog eyes on him, or promise to do unspeakable things or something.
Ooh, a vacation! Would you like to trade places with me? Pretty please? I’m sure you would have quite a blast with my oh-so exciting schoolwork and occasional family bickerings.

Saturday the 6th. This is the day/night of The Littlest Doper[sup]tm[/sup] First Annual Birthday Bonanza and Hootenany.
I’ll see about Friday as Mrs. Spritle will most certainly have last minute plans for me regarding TLDFABBaH.
Fredericksburg is two hours, maybe even two and a half hours away from Annapolis. You’re going to be exhausted from having to drive four or five hours each day of this boat show. Maybe we should hold the Dopefest somewhere close to Fredricksburg rather than Annapolis.
I hate to be a party-poop, but the idea of spending the evening socializing with a bunch of people he doesn’t know ranks way low on the list of things to do on our break. As I mentioned, he doesn’t get this whole MB community thing. If/when we move back to the area, I might have a better chance of dragging him along, but I fear I must beg off this time. <deep sad sigh> And I really had a good time at my one-and-only Dopefest… ah, well, someday…
